I'd probably go with "It Was a Very Good Year" or "Strangers in the Night" as my favorite Frank Sinatra song. But he certainly had a good one. He did a version of "High Hopes" as a theme song for JFK in 1960 -- carefully leaving out the "apple pie in the sky hopes". Dr. Demento played it in a show segment on political songs that I heard from a friend's tape. (That's also where I encountered "Abe Snake for President", which is available on YouTube.)

It doesn’t get much better than Frank doing Strangers in the Night. Great song. Great singer.

Frank is great but not to forget Glenn Miller, The Dorseys, Kay Kaiser, even Wayne Newton

Good suggestions. I have been listening to a bit of Glenn Miller lately via Apple Music. And I ran across a similarly interesting album called Harry James & His Orchestra Featuring Frank Sinatra. It's an oldie but goodie and I enjoy listening to this blast of nostalgia. Apple Music had just one song by Kay Kaiser and His Orchestra: "Ev'ry Night About this time." It's rather nice.

Many interesting choices, but of course an early ST poll was favorite singers, and I seem to recall that Dame Petula Clark and Karen Carpenter ranked very high. For that matter, partly due to what's available, I listed to Nancy Sinatra a lot more than Frank.

And you've given me the perfect opportunity to test a new plugin. It supposely makes it easy to present stuff from SoundCloud. Here goes... _ Oh, crap. That's nearly worthless. It plays just a few moments of the song. Okay...another song plays all the way through. I guess it just depends on the song.

Here's another oldie but goodies. And it doubles as a way to check out the SoundCloud plugin (and what free content they have).

Ah, Brad as a early boomer 1948, these guys were still on the radio as I grew up. If its possible to wear out digital recordings then I just might accomplish that task. You can even dip back another 50 years to the early days of jazz and Al Jolson.

You're playing my tune, Traveler. I picked this up a couple years back. This is a true "album" album. It's a fold-out book-like thing with four records in individual sleeves inside. The vinyl is in great shape and sounds fantastic on my 78 rpm player, for which I have a small collection of records.

Back in the 50s Larry Parks made a good movie about Jolson, The Jazz Singer and James Cagney made a movie about George M Cohan. Both are excellent movies that, perhaps overdo the nostalgia of the time before the depression.

I haven't seen The Jazz Singer, either the original talkie or the latter biopic. I have seen Yankee Doodle Dandy, which is a nice movie. It's unfortunate that Cohan was a Democrat and a fan of FDR (who actually had little use for Irish-Americans). But as Cagney comedies go, I prefer One, Two, Three.

A normal man has dreams about 2o-something (and maybe two- or three-something) young and beautiful women. Last night Frank stopped by a poker party my father was having and everyone was chatting and having a good time as Sinatra held court. (Dean and Sammy where there too.) So this song seems appropriate for your Morning Sinatra:

I see "Young at Heart" was released in 1953, the year I was born. I keep trying to stay young at heart, but my body is doing its best to undermine me. It helps to hear "Old Blue Eyes" sing this tune.

Given that age is just a social construct, I would change my birth date to something like 1982. That would make you 37 and not old.

I was born in late 1951, so KFZ is a year or so younger than I am. Of course, I feel a lot older than that, though people say I look younger. Personally I'd rather have a younger body than younger looks (reversing an error made by the main character if the Twilight Zone episode "Of Late I Think of Cliffordville": Going back in time to build up his fortune again (he found making it more tun than having it), he insisted on looking young but neglected to insist on a young body. Miss Devlin (played by Julie Newmar) was quick to take advantage of the opportunity.
