Very possibly. But Churchill was the rock on which the Nazi wave broke. He had been fighting them since the early 1930s and would have kept fighting them even if he had needed to flee to Canada or America.

Have a look into that criminal idiot Sergeant Samuel Doe of Liberia. Or Prince Johnson, or Charles Taylor.
Or Haiti's post-slavery history.

I'm sure Emperor Bokassa could match the leaders you were talking about. Except maybe Papa Doc Duvalier, if only because he ruled so long (no doubt thanks to the Tonton Macoutes). Then there's Macias Nguema in Equatorial Guinea -- aka Zangaro in The Dogs of War. One later news report said that Frederick Forsyth did some unique research for that book -- by trying to get rid of its dictatorship.

This is the most interesting African ex-dictator of whom I know.
While no angel, he actually transformed Ghana into a democracy and apparently has not soaked the people dry. I have seen him several times in long interviews and the man is no dummy. As with all politicians, one must take what he says with a large grain of salt, but he actually seems to be interested in improving his country and the standard of living there.
He gave up power almost 20 years ago and has not tried to retrieve it.

Global Warming, African Swine Fever, Riots in Hongkong, Brexit delay. These are all small matters when compared to what might happen soon in Japan. Rugby World CupThis could get serious.

In one of the Airplane movies, a stewardess is informing Captain Oveur of all the various problems, which he accepts calmly. Then she adds that they're running out of coffee, and he gets really annoyed -- he kept telling them to make sure they had enough coffee.
