Family Feud is still being done, though it's gone through a lot of hosts and has been up and down in the ratings (which is usually when it changes). GSN shows it a lot, so far only with the current host (Steve Harvey). But there is one important difference: America Says hands out points based on how many you get right; Family Feud gives points based on how many agreed, and the last team to get an answer gets all of them.
But you're quite right; both are based not on getting answers right, but on matching American opinions of the answers.

You've all probably heard that Alex Trebek passed away on Sunday. That game show is something that I consider one of the forces for cultural enrichment. The television isn't always the Boob Tube. Condolences to friends, family, and everyone who loved that show. Chances are you will get some modern boob as the new host for that show. But you never know.

Trebek died with 35 more unaired shows in the can, and those will be shown. The new host, whoever it turns out to be, will pretty much start with the new year. They didn't say when they would announce who will be the new host, but rather obviously they're not ending the show.

I fear they’ll get some wise-ass guy such as Adam Corolla. And although someone like that might work in the bean-counting dreams of the demographers, I hope they chose someone with a bit more decorum. And if they get someone like Jimmy Kimmel, count me out.
Offhand, I can’t think of who would be best. It’s possible they’ll do something like rotate some stars into and out of the hosting role, which wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world. But please no left-wing wise asses who can’t keep their politics out of it. No rainbow-haired freaks either. Give me a guy in a suit who can speak English.

I admit I preferred Art Fleming to Trebek. I have fond memories of the days when the answers board was not electronic.

That non-electronic board is old school, for sure.

He's obviously a good contestant, but who knows how he'll do as host? I noticed that many respondents considered him anti-charismatic. He could also be rather busy because he's a regular panelist on Master Minds, a show I mentioned previously and which is starting new shows in a couple of weeks. They introduce him as "the trivia legend", which is certainly a fair description. On the other hand, they do have several panelists available and he doesn't appear on every show, so we'll see. (My roommate watches both, so inevitably I have some awareness given my own interests in trivia.)

I think it’s hard to quantify why Alex Trebek was so effective. He elocution was top-notch. His personality was fine. But he certainly wasn’t effusive. He was low-key congenial. He never made the show about himself. There was an air of reserved class. That is, he was about as far away as the typical TV goofball as you could get.
Can you read the answers consistently without getting tongue-tied? It’s probably a lot harder than it looks.
I haven’t seen Master Minds. I don’t get the Game Show Network which is apparently a cable channel. Sounds interesting.

I wonder if Jennings will even make it to the air. It appears some past remarks/posts by him are too insensitive for our delicate co-citizens.

This could indeed be a problem. His abject apology (using the leftist buzzword "ableist") will cost him some conservative sympathy, and of course the mild insult enrages the Wokeists. The other tweet is more a mockery of the movie than the person.

Yes, I see the "woke" are eating their own again. If he doesn't kneel before taking the podium, I'm willing to give him a fair try. That said, I would love to write the questions for just one show. The first category that came to mind is "Reasons other than being black that people voted for Obama." "Ken, I'll have "Reasons other than being black that people voted for Obama" for 100": "And the answer is: 'HIs pastor is known for popularizing this phrase" Bzzz. "What is 'Chickens coming home to roost'?"
A more clever person might have noted that all the clues in this category were blank. But like I said, it was off the top of my head. I'd love a truly conservative-oriented game show.

Ken Jennings has been guest-hosting Jeopardy! this week. I’ve watched three of the shows so far. I missed his first on Monday.
Although Alex Trebek was smoother, Jennings has excelled at the #1 job of a Jeopardy! host: Reading the answers without tripping over your tongue.
And he’s been personable as a host given the pressure of the situation and whose shoes he is filling. Not quite as smooth and personable as Alex but I think he’d get better if given the permanent hosing role. Ratings are king, but I would assume his trial guest-hosting performance is going to be tough to beat.
I’m not sure when the next guest-host starts. I would assume this Monday. However this shakes out, give the guy an A for effort. He earned it.

Overall, Ken Jennings did a splendid job in his 4 weeks or so as “guest host.” Then they moved to this dude who is the executive producer. He did a clean (if less interesting) job of it as well. But he’s the executive producer, so I supposed his turn as host is understandable.
But now they have this vanilla-boring broad doing the guest-hosting duty. And it’s clear that her only qualification is being a woman. She’s not awful, per se. But with her there, it’s not longer Jeopardy!. With Jennings you had a connection to Trebek and the game itself. I simply won’t watch it with this awful affirmative-action female doing it.
Oh. It’s Katie Couric. Barely looked like her. But then I tuned in for only a few seconds. The show is dead to me with that nitwit on it. But I honestly didn’t know it was her until I Googled just now. I was going to try to find out who this woman was and then post a picture.

Still working my way through the Columbo episodes. The one with Richard Kiley is very good. The one with Robert Vaughn is particularly good as well. Interestingly, the one with Dick Van Dyke I didn’t find all that appealing. He didn’t come off as the criminal type. And certainly his murder was one of the most convoluted I can remember. Columbo could have phoned this one in.

MeTV aired the following "Columbo" episode last night. I have to say, I never liked Jack Cassidy. His acting abilities were third rate. He always played Jack Cassidy, and there was noting very interesting about the way he looked or spoke. As a result, to my mind, this is not one of the better "Columbo" episodes. Murder By The Book

Oh yeah. He kills Martin Milner who doesn’t last long in this one. Marcia Wallace has an uncredited role. Whatever you think of Cassidy, you have to love the job that actress did as a sort of trailer-trash grocery store owner. I LOL’d over that one. And she was practically begging to be murdered. What could Jack do?
With the Robert Vaughn one, it's very Agatha-Christie-like. Columbo is on a cruise with his wife (who we never see). Robert Vaughn takes out a blackmailing woman who he had an affair with. I wouldn't call Vaughn the greatest actor either but he was good in this. He fit the part. Columbo's wife, much like Norm Peterson's wife, is never seen. I like the way they play it. A nice departure for the series.

That actress played the part well. Greedy, not very attractive, trashy and more than a bit slow. Jack was doing the world a favor.

This is probably old news to you. But I just read the other day that Mike Richards, executive producer of Jeopardy! — and after a long and extensive series of auditions by various people — has been chosen to be the next Jeopardy! host.
That’s scandal #1. Scandal #2 is some irreverent words were dug up from an old podcast, he was thrown under the bus, and he then switched into apology mode. (Oh how dare I utter a word, even in jest, that upsets the bitchy, Nazi-like feminists.)
I suspect now that means that LeVar Burton (if he wants it) has the job, merely because he is a “person of color.” Not that LeVar wasn’t good at it. He was fine. In fact, none of the candidates that I saw were bad in the role.
An article at CNN speculates, however, that Ken Jennings is the favorite for the job. Frankly, he makes the most sense to me as well. The rest are just talking heads. Ken has a connection to the show.
But how stupendously stupid to go through the motions of this search and end up choosing the executive producer. It made a farce of it all, with or without his naughty words in a podcast.
