I watched this last night. Most of my assumptions about it were confirmed. However, the history was spot on to everything I know about the battle of Midway. The CGI was somewhat disorienting it had the effect of a video game, My major complaint is the uniforms. Granted no one expects dress uniforms in battle but in almost every other scene the principle actors uniforms, from private to admiral were badly fit and wrinkled. In one shot the commander of navel intelligence is meeting with Nimitz. No navy commander in his right mind would meet a commanding officer in a wrinkled uniform. Perhaps after spending all that money for green screen CGI they couldn't afford a proper tailor.

Thanks for the review. That sounds like one I can take a pass on.

Mr. Gibblet and I just finished watching our Redbox copy of Midway, which we enjoyed. CGI is obvious in most applications, and Midway is no exception, but how else could the massive destruction at the bombing of Pearl Harbor be depicted? And I found myself fighting along with the American pilots, flying by the seat of my pants and dodging enemy fire from the ships guns and Japanese aircraft (Zeros?).
I think you could give Midway a try, Brad. I was pleasantly suprised that Woody's Nimitz didn't ruin the movie for me, and you could probably get through it without even one gag reflex.
As a bonus comment: it is my distinct honor to have a dear friend, a WWII Veteran, who served on a Destroyer at the Battle Of Iwo Jima. I hope he will tell me more about what it was like during the battle, when we visit in a few days. He has told me other stories of God's providence in his life that are truly awe inspiring. At 90something, he is still going strong!

That does sounds like there may have been some devastating scenes, especially if they covered American torpedo bomber attacks from the aircrews' viewpoints. They suffered extremely heavy losses, especially Waldron's Torpedo 8 which lost all its planes and had one surviving crewman. The Japanese fighters at Midway would indeed have been Zeroes. At this time, they were better than any of the fighters they faced in the battle.

It's nice to be understood. Okay. Maybe when it comes to one of the streaming services I subscribe to.

I think I'm likely to regret this. But I so see now that they have Midway on Tubi TV. I will give it a go and report back.

Twenty minutes into Midway and I'm bored. None of the actors (so far) are compelling. The overall look of the film is as if Marvel Comics is the producer.
Exactly. Whereas in Midway (so far...only 20 minutes in) the actors all seem to be mouthing lines as written by Marvel Comics writers, damned if Burt Lancaster and Clark Gable do not, as you said, seem like real men who commanded in this era.
I'll try to get back and watch more of Midway. But, frankly, I've lost any enthusiasm for watching it because it's been too much put through the modern filter from what I see. I'll take torpedoes-on-a-string over the too-much-CGI look of the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
