I’ve been into watching the old Password game show on the BUZZR channel. They air some of the original Password, Password Plus (both with Allen Ludden), and Super Password (Bert Convey) shows.
Ludden must have a good in with the stars because they just got through with a week’s worth with Jerry Lewis was on the show. That's a very major star right there. And Lewis was a competent player.
Anyway, what brought this to immediate mind was an episode today of Password Plus. If you don’t know how that works, it’s like regular Password except the clues all add up to an overall password. So you might have on the board (one at a time) the previous passwords of : Yellow, pointed, fruit, monkeys, bunch. And as these clues are arrived at one at a time you have the opportunity to guess (at the end of each round) what they clues might be leading up to. In this case it’s “banana,” of course.
So they had these two women on there who were obviously products of the California school system. Even Allen Ludden at the end of this noted that they must not be teaching geography these days. For him, that was a rare snide comment, although he was pleasant as usual about it.
Anyway, these two chicks are playing the game and they’ve revealed all five of the passwords which are: Siberia, Turkey, India, Vietnam. And if you haven’t gotten it by those first four clues (none of them did), the fifth and final clue was “continent.” And what does with one chick say? “North America.” Even Allen was rolling his eyes on that.
But they do also have some really good players who show up. But it was just funny how in this one episode they had two California dummies.
