The Association was a great band. Here is another one of their hits. What' not to like?

Mr. Flu, I've been listening to The Association Greatest Hits! via Apple Music. It's an outstanding album. The song, "Windy," holds very bittersweet memories for me about a very pretty blond girl in the 6th grade. That's all I can say about it. The big four are, of course, "Windy," "Cherish," "Never My Love," and "Along Comes Mary." But several songs on this greatest hits album are terrific. A good listen. A fairly polished ensemble they were.

Here are some musicians who know what they are doing. I love the little girl drummer. (Kawaguchi) I ran into these people on a website which I read daily to gather info on the Ukraine/Russia war. One cannot think only of war. I particularly enjoyed the song starting a bit after the 34 minute point, but the whole video is well worth watching. Nakazono, Yonezawa and Kawaguchi

Clotrain would be proud. Music truly is an international language. Progressive jazz is often hard to listen to if you don't follow the musicians but this is nice. Thanks for the post.

Some more very extreme talent. I have already listened to this four or five times in a row. The man is amazing!! I would give my right arm to play like that, but then I wouldn't be able to play like that without it. Igor Plastinkin

This song came out from a Texas girl today. It has gone to no. 1 at iTunes. I had to laugh. I predict this will become Trump's anthem over the next two years. Trump Won and You Know It

Gordon Lightfoot has died. He brings back memories from 50 years ago. Lightfoot wrote some beautiful songs and performed in a pure manner without a bunch of extraneous garbage, which is normally included in a song in order cover a performer's musical failings. Lightfoot had none that I can recall. Pure, melodic music. RIP. Carefree Highway

This is the song which made him a name in the USA. It was very big when I was a senior in high school. My best friend, who was also in the Dallas Boys Choir when I was, liked to sing this song. I particularly liked the phrasing of the verse below. It takes breath control. The first two lines have to be sung in one breath. One then takes a quick breath after the word "it" and proceeds to sing the last two lines, again, without taking a breath until finishing the word "back." It was very cool to a couple of high school singers. I never thought I could act this way
And I've got to say that I just don't get it
I don't know where we went wrong
But the feeling's gone and I just can't get it back
If You Could Read My Mind

There wasn't anyone quite like Gordon Lightfoot. In 1970 I would have been holding my breath trying to make my way through the sixth grade -- or perhaps my first year in junior high school. But his music lingered for years, practically giving birth to "Adult Contemporary" on FM radio which had become a big thing back then.
A couple songs that auto-played past one of those videos above, I found this:

One of the best things about the internet is that one can find just about every song one grew up with. Here is a group I liked very much as a young adult. Believe me the singer is very good. The way he goes from regular head voice to falsetto is not easy, particularly to maintain the high quality of the falsetto. This is live and a singer only has one chance to get it right.

That's an oldie but goodie. Haven't heard that in years...probably decades. It was on very big rotation on the major FM stations in the 70s/80s. I think this is when FM really started to take off and it gave a respite between 60's 3-minute pop and the ample junk to come in the mid 80's and beyond. It was an oasis, for the most part, of white artists doing smooth tunes. Al Stewart. Stephen Bishop, and so many others. I think they dubbed it "adult contemporary" but it was a step above (and a big one) mere "easy listening" which was basically a euphemism for elevator music.
Who are some of the other adult contemporary greats of FM in the 70's and 80's?
