And I read recently the many secular Jews are downright embarrassed by religious Jews. That is true, but there are different kinds of secular Jews. On the progressive/communist wing there is true embarrassment but that does not extend to the secular conservative. We are, I believe on the cusp ever questioning decisions about faith, G-d, and existence. The secular conservative recognizes that for over 2,000 years it was religious Jews, especially the women, who carried the burden of our existence. It was these men and women who remained in community, prayed the traditional prayers, avoided forbidden foods, and studied Torah, often to excess, that kept Jews being Jews. In this regard it takes a lot of work to be a religious Jew. I suppose that is why converts are few and far between. |

That was a very good scene. The movie needed more like that. And I liked that character as well. Shame there wasn’t a little more of him.

Probably the reason this movie was so flawed. Certainly the reason we didn’t see more of this character.

If we're not sharing that journey, at least in part, we are entirely lost. Kudos to the gatekeepers, prophets, and sages.
