Do you recall how old the tree is? The one that I grew from a foot-and-half plant took about 5 years until it produced something edible, although it did produce inedible (or at least unpalatable) fruit for a couple years before this. Little bits of arcana such as that put you back into the period. This was the stuff they were concerned about. It's like considering Seattle people stepping over or around the "homeless" to get their espressos. The figs are doing okay this year but nothing quite ripe yet. The tree is not loaded but it looks like it could produce five to seven edible fruit. Maybe more. Original Photo

I believe ours is also about five years old. It started out as a small tree and had the one trunk for several years. Then we had the freeze of Feb. 2021, which appeared to kill the tree. But that spring small branches started growing out of the base of the dead trunk and it became a bush. Future historians/anthropologists will, no doubt, see that as some sort of ritual. Whether religious, or simply cultural, will not be apparent.

Today it's 79 and a little overcast, so it's a good day to tinker about some in the garden.
I trimmed the ivy back from the sidewalk and returned it to a crisp, regulation edge. In so doing, it reminded me how much ivy is like a liberal.
If an oak is a conservative tree, standing tall and proud, then ivy is obviously a left-of-center creeper. It looks good when kept carefully within bounds, trimmed back often as needed (and it is always needed). This is analogous to a liberal who, when confined to an art fare or Starbucks, is relatively harmless. But outside of those bounds – especially where they can vote – they make a mess of the rest of the garden.

That is to your benefit. It's only a couple of comical drag queens. Poison Ivy. Not sure what poison oak would be. Probably best not to consider.

I had my first ripe fig. It was of pretty good size, about 2.25" inches in diameter judging by those standard bricks. It was sweet and good.

That looks like the type of fig that the owner of a Lebanese restaurant I know grows. The one in my backyard is like this.

What an interesting fig. I haven't seen one like that. Makes sense. We hardly have a Mediterranean climate on the upper Left Coast.
So what you're saying is that there are some built in defenses against "the homeless" pilfering them. Clever tree. And a beautiful fruit to boot.

Our fig bush has really blossomed this year. We have been harvesting figs since early June, at the latest. Every day, I go out and pick a few figs off the bush. Jr. likes figs and we both eat a few every day. Nice and sweet.
Eating those figs reminds me that, according to Will Durant, the ancient Greeks did not allow the export of figs as figs were their main source of sugar.

Glad your fig tree is going gangbusters. Mine seems a little weak this year.
