I'm probably going to delete the distinction between "Formal" reviews and the Forums I have at the very top that note they are for "informal discussions." This could be a distinction without much of a purpose. What do you think?

Probably a good idea. Some of the reviews I did in the Forum were in fact written as I read the book and there were occasional discussions of issues, particularly in Victor Davis Hanson's book on World War II.

The last few reviews I did were written over a number of different posts, so your idea would fit me just fine. It took many posts to review the 8 volume Churchill Biography.

I also found out you could create “Custom Pages” with this forum software. If you wanted to attach a more formal blog to the forums, or make a special home page, you could do that. Or, as with this example, you can make a sort of personal home page that will show the stats and such pertinent to each member.

That personal home page has a lot of info on it. Maybe interesting to bloggers.

I sort of just slapped a few of the pre-build widgets on there to see what they could do.

I was thinking of starting a new thread on the TV section, and the Create Thread option didn't show up. Is this because of that "New" posting there? What's up? Can it be changed?

The Create Thread button is still there. It's just that in this case, it's below that listing of sub-forums (Netflix, Britbox, etc.). This is the only forum (TV, Streaming, and Cable) that has sub-forums. The sub-forum will appear above any posts created outside of them. (I've done an example which I will delete later.)
You have several options. Enter the "Misc." sub-forum and create a new thread. Or create a new thread on the level of the sub-forum page. Or...if what you're reviewing fits one of the sub-forum topics, enter that sub-forum and create a new thread there.
Or — because I know you review a lot of stuff on TNT — I can create a TNT sub-forum.

I’m zeroing in on being 99% complete on the fit and finish of this site. I put a slight drop-shadow to the drop-down “Site” menu. Spit and polish.
I’ve looked at dozens of other ProBoard sites and almost all of them are ugly and quite few of them are all but unreadable.
I suspect the forum structure will be refined here and there. Best intentions aren’t enough sometimes. But I’ll keep the Science & Technology forum because that is an interest of mine and I would go crazy just “socializing,” nice as you all are. We must learn new stuff too.
I don’t expect anyone to write any original poetry or short stories, but it’s there (perhaps ready for my old age). “Calendar Events” will likely go. But I put it there to check out the calendar feature. But if it doesn’t turn out that we are frequently adding events to the calendar (“Hey, watch the new season of “Bosch” April 5 on Netflix”) then I’ll just scrap it.
Even “Site News and Feedback” could be pared back to nothing once things are established a little more. The “Help” section would then be all we need.
It’s not impossible that we add sub-forums for the “Movies” forum such as “Westerns,” “Crime,” “Noir,” “Comedy,” “Drama,” etc. And it’s not like I’m preparing for a flood of people. It’s just that *I* want to stay organized. I just can’t live like a bum as some people do.
We’re not likely to gain a whole lot of people back from ST because, first, there weren’t that many and, second, most people were not passionate writers (although there were a few) but were vanity writers. And there’s no fanfare, drum-rolls, and criss-crossing searchlights in a forum-based site. Next time Selwyn sends me something, I’ll let him know what we’re doing now and offer him a choice. He’s truly a great guy and there would be no hard feelings one way or another.
But I’m done posting other people’s stuff. If he wants to post an article here, he can. I’ll set up a thread for him if need be and send him the link. But I’m nobody’s butler anymore. What thanks did I ever get? (And I’m not talking about Selwyn. He was always very kind and generous in the background.).From a few people, I did receive a very nice bit of thanks. From most they just proved themselves to be leeches, taking advantage of something for nothing and never asking if there was something they could do to help.
I truly understand now that one Democrat a few years back who got in trouble saying something like “We have to control the people.” Well, this is becoming increasingly so as we become spoiled, self-centered, egotistical and give every impression of becoming that which we deride the other side for being: Snowflakes. Being herded like cat’s is in our future because we’ve become disconnected from just a basic literacy of history, art, ethics, religion, literature, and all the things that used to produce (or was supposed to produce) an even-minded, well-rounded, and thoughtful individual.
Have you seen Facebook lately? Have you read what passes for a thoughtful article in the conservative press? It’s truly awful. There is something that has been rotted out in us (and I do believe a significant amount of this rotting is due to nothing more complicated than the effects of marijuana).
So let’s polish the brass buttons and put on our Sunday best. The heathens are in charge but not everywhere. Yet.
