They always have been and always will be. If one wishes to be kind, one could say that most were not too bright and were unable, or unwilling, to think through the consequences of their pipe dream philosophy. But as I have said before, at heart they are either dissolute degenerates or rapacious, sociopathic scoundrels. Perhaps a more honest word for them would be anarchists.
I tried to read the whole thing, but couldn't. He must have been paid on a "per word" basis. Perhaps one's success in think-tankdom is measured by the obscurity of one's writing, which insures nobody finishes anything one has written.

Like me, you are no doubt a professional skimmer. Good god, there's no way I was going to read all that. But if there was ever a time to prove that Libertarianism was anything more than a salon political affectation, the KFF mania was the time. And they blinked. A lot of people blinked, so I'm not laying it all on them. But the supposed raison d'être of libertarianism is resisting government intervention. And on this largest power-grab by the government since the Civil War (a grab induced and prompted by Southern idiocy, if you ask me...aka they brought this on themselves and all of us), the libertarians were missing in action.

I was fortunate in this case. Mdm. Flu is as skeptical, perhaps even more skeptical, than I am. She would have probably given me hell if I had gotten the IIEGTJ. Of course, she had the advantage of growing up in Singapore and seeing Lee Kwan Yew's PAP take over and control things. A type of "Gleichschaltung" took place. Everything government does is in your best interest.

I started the piece, reading every word. I quickly started skimming. I progressed from skimming to skipping whole paragraphs. I finally gave up. What rubbish.
I thought libertarians were supposed to be skeptics and question everything government does or tells you. For example, I am no a libertarian, but for 40 years now, have advised people not to believe government statistics.
As you mentioned, even a little questioning would have shown what a scam/crime was being perpetrated on us all.
It was so simple that it is quite stunning they failed it. All a libertarian had to say was, "If you are worried about the KFF, take whatever precautions you believe necessary, but don't force your beliefs on others. If you want to get the IIEGTJ, have at it, but don't force others to do so." In fact, that is what we here at R&T promoted.

Mdm. Flu is the kind of woman we need and the kind who helped build this country and make it strong. We don't need the hysterical man-hating feminist fascists who are at war with nature and just about everything else.

Mdm. Flu is a very stoic character. She almost never complains about anything. She may be upset, but she just gets on with things. She certainly complains less than I do. The one sure way to get a rise out of her is to tell her she must do this or that.

I am not so sure that "reflexive disbelief of everything is no better than the opposite." True, humans have to take a number of things on trust in order to function in society. But, every now and then, it is prudent to check whether or not these things are in fact true. I am sure someone else said it before me, but my point of departure is to question everything. Be skeptical about the things others tell you, particularly the things government, large corporations and other large institutions spout.

I think what he meant, and probably should have said better, is that radical skepticism is a first cousin of (and facilitator of) Marxist "Critical Theory," the latter whose purpose is to destroy that which exists. That is, every principle, idea, or institution needn't be considered suspect and worthy of destruction unless somehow saved by one's careful reasoning.
As conservatives, we believe that that which has come before most likely has a good reason for being there unless we can make a good case otherwise. Don't tear down that fence unless you know why it's there, etc.
Of course, in today's Culture of Lies, it would indeed be a good habit to pretty much distrust most of what is coming out of the "official" lie factories. But just speaking on general principles, I think radical skepticism is not generally what we want. Maybe we would call it "reasonable skepticism" or "informed skepticism."

I completely agree that reasonable or informed would be better adjectives. And reasonable, or informed, skepticism are certainly better than "reflexive belief in everything" i.e. being Pollyannish, which what the writer claimed.
I believe that one of the great advantages conservatives have is that we learn from observation more than from elaborate theories. We don't waste time trying to re-invent the wheel. That doesn't mean we are not open to new ideas, rather that we don't abandon proven ground. (We might double check the proven ground every now and then, just to keep everyone honest.)

That is, hopefully we spend much less time lying to ourselves. We see that men have a penis, women have a vagina. We understand that weather is changeable and that CO2 is, in fact, fertilizer for plants, not a deadly poison.
We see that if you print money, you cause inflation. If you elect corrupt leaders, you get corruption. That if you are soft on criminals, you will get more crime.
It hurts my head to think of the enormous amount of delusions that Progressives must somehow keep balanced in the air to make their ideology seem workable.

I thought this post should be on the Culture of Hysteria string. I remember the moment that asshole Mike Pence came on TV in mid-March of 2020 and talked about "15 days to flatten the curve." My immediate reaction was, "you lying sack of shit. After 15 days you will come back and it will be extended by 30 days, then by 45 days and then who knows how long." Pence destroyed himself at that moment. Here is a good video of Greg Gutfeld which puts the whole lie into perspective. It came out in April 2022 and the truth of the matter was very clear by then. The first 6 or 7 minutes of the Gutfeld video cover the important info. To be honest, the truth was already know by April 2020. Just go back and read our posts. Follow the scienceActually, we did know quite a bit. We knew that the KFF would spread regardless whatever we did. That is what viruses do. I cannot recall anyone in history being able to stop the spread of a virus once a pandemic had already started. We also knew that shutting down schools would do immense damage to children. I will stop now, but anyone who doubts we didn't pretty well call it, should go back and read our posts which started very early on during the KFF. Before the "Culture of Hysteria" string, I believe our comments were on the "Breaking News" string.

I think what we can say, Mr. Flu, in a general sort of summary, is that the KFF was a social and political dynamic and not very much a medical one. As Gufeld said, it wasn't about following the "science" but following the "political science." And he noted correctly how the teacher's union exercised power just because they could...which is a common denominator in all this at every level...all fed by the new fourth rail of politics that few will talk about … women's wants, needs, and moral outlook predominating while men are sidelined. That's precisely why we got safetyism instead of freedom.
It also was proof-positive that this online "social" environment we've created for ourselves has done little but amplify and facilitate nonsense. One look at Ellen Degenerate and you understand how vapid 99% of media and online content is.
Here should be that video:
I had never heard of Gutfeld. He's very good. And funny. And factually correct. He seems sort of like a replacement for Rush Limbaugh.
Good point.

Early in her career, when she was just doing stand-up comedy, she was funny. But then because of her lesbianism she was elevated to a position far above what most normal people would be interested in. Imagine Jerry Seinfeld having a political show. He's a great comic. But do you really want to water down his best attribute by basically being a mascot? (Mascot for a funny Jew, I suppose.)
Ellen's shtick did not age well. But she did what she was paid to do . . . put a mainstream spin on lesbianism. She was successful in that regard, riding the wave of DEI and the gullible (mostly female) fascination for "diversity." My summing-up is that a genuinely funny person had her soul destroyed by the Progressive Machine.

So we were talking about gullibility the other day. I just watched season one, episode 17, of The FBI: The Chameleon: Erskine and Rhodes are tracking a man who seduces and then kills wealthy widows. I don't know if they pull these stories straight out of the FBI files. But certainly gullible women (played wonderfully by Margaret Leighton) do exist. And it's a reminder of the age-old reason for customs such as courting. Men must be assumed to be predators unless proven otherwise. This is why an extended courtship matters. In this episode, this older lady gets married within two weeks of meeting this smooth-talker and is soon selling her house to give him the $380,000 he supposedly needs for some money-making scheme. And I do believe even senior ladies can fall for this stuff, although they should know better, one would think. But even more so younger women. As I've said many times, the Democrat Party is a de facto date-rape drug in regards to women. It plays on their gullibility and puts them into a "battered voter" sort of relationship with the party. (How's that having men competing in women's sports working out for you ladies?") And then a thought occurred to me: Good men are necessary, but fathers are essential. That is, men (fathers) are needed to help sift out the scumbags and to find the Good Man (which still do exist...especially if you keep the standards high). Although Islam takes it to an extreme, the idea is correct that a father should protect his daughter from engineering young men. I think one commonality regarding true gullibility (apart from being a mask for avarice) is being too immature to understand that people are liars and you accept their motives as dodgy until proven otherwise. That's just common sense. I've found that women have a very difficult time with this concept. It's as if they don't know that a man will say and do anything in order to get a woman's favors. And having joined the "free love" ethos, women have severely devalued themselves. This is one reason so many are grossly fat. They know inside that they have been devalued. The fatness is an expression of this.
