The Unholy Trinity
There are three ideologies that have caused great unhappiness in the world, Communism, Nazism, and Islam. At one time or another each has attempted to kill me or those in my extended family. So, to some extent my antipathic attitude is personal. However, these three are the world’s worst.
Today in the midst of a worldwide panic over a virus, possibly created intentionally in PRC, political leaders worldwide are using the opportunity to exercise dictatorial control of their respective jurisdictions. American governors, county officers, and mayors, who should know better, are ordering people to near house arrest. I have no problem with the same suggesting staying at home, but I resent intensely any order to do that.
The preamble of the Constitution says, "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
The volume of law that allows a free system to function grants limited powers to state and local jurisdictions on how to handle questions of personal protection. It allows for the creation of various public services that surely come under the intent of the Constitution allowing for justice, tranquility, common defense and welfare. However, these powers are counterbalanced by the wording of the Constitution itself, specifically the first ten amendments.
Yes, authorities can legally, under certain circumstances, limit the number of people gathering for non-political purposes, but ordering a church to close its doors to worshipers is a violation of first amendment and a violation of our most fundamental law allowing freedom of conscience, speech, and assembly. Governors and mayors nationwide have taken onto themselves powers not relegated to them, by state constitution or federal to impose regulations that are illegal in the most profound manner.
They are falling all over themselves, perhaps in fear of being called uncaring, to close businesses, churches, sporting events and any enterprise where people might gather. In Virginia they are closing gun stores, ranges and limiting the sale of all firearms while at the same time making it clear that there will be fewer police to respond to emergencies when called, second amendment be damned. In several states they are writing violations with large fines to keep people out of churches and synagogues for Passover and Easter services. We have not seen this kind of fascist action since FDR ordered the involuntary confinement of thousands of Americans of Japanese descent in 1942. It was decades before courts ordered compensation for the victims of this illegal action.
However, these three ideologies not only agree with the actions of leaders over the past few weeks; Islam condones and requires the necessity of top down dictates, Communism and Nazism also can only exist in a strong man despotism. It doesn’t matter that none of these governors or mayors are not Moslem, Communist or Nazi. It is only important that their actions reflect the totalitarian aspects of all three and to preserve our culture we must vote them out. Will that happen? Tune in November 9th for an update.
