Lucan is a 2013 UK series (2-part) based upon a true story. I found this got better in the second half. The first half is a little difficult to watch because the main characters are so unrepentantly evil. I have no idea if these attitudes were prevalent in some English men’s clubs of the day (1970's or so). But that’s how they show it in this one, fully and unflinchingly anti-woman and anti-middle class (or poor). A complete Darwinian outlook. Anyway, long story short is that this fellow, Lord Lucan, is spending most of his time slowly losing his family fortune in the gambling house of John Aspinall. The wife objects. Aspinall advises Lord Lucan to ditch the wife and gain custody of the children. And it all flows from this. There is some speculation in this series regarding what really happened (there are still major unknowns) but they portray some logical conclusions. Still, who knows? There are some pretty despicable characters in this. But after the setup in the first part, it gets a little less depressing in the second part. Overall, this is a at least medium-quality series, well-acted and directed.

A lot of this does seem over-the-top. And yet apparently Lucan and a few of his club members were vile men. I think three scenarios were presented for what happened to him:
1) He boarded a ferry and then promptly drowned himself in the English Channel 2) He escaped (whether the Far East or elsewhere) 3) He escaped to Switzerland where Aspinall secreted him in a secluded lodge, hoping he could return when things died down. But when Lucan became a liability for his friends, they had him killed.
They pretty much went with option number 3 in the series. I don't know what evidence they had. But what a screwed up bunch of people.
