The Winchester scope came today for my Powerline 880 air gun. I was shooting Gamo match pellets which came in a variety pack like this. The scope came pretty closely dialed in for windage (left/right). But it needed a whole lot of adjustment in the up direction. After about 30 pellets I got it dialed in at about 80 feet to well withing margin-of-error. That is, I couldn't tell if the sights were off or I was off. But most shots were in the ballpark of the bullseye. The scope is sharp and bright, especially compared to the very cheap one that came with the gun (and that would never hold a setting). It would be nice to have a gun vice so that I could really dial it in. But that would just be overkill at this point. I'm happy to have what appears to be a reliable and easy-to-use scope.

I did some more shooting with my Powerline 880 air gun. I might have sighted it in a little better. But at least the settings from yesterday held. One of the factors is the distance you are shooting and the pellets you are shooting. I had been shooting a flat-nosed "wadcutter" pellet. I've since read that those aren't optimal for anything over the intended competition distance of 10 meters (32.8 feet). I read a recommendation that a rounded-nose pellet was better at a distance. Also, someone noted that you needn't pump up your air rifle to the max. The max on my is (I think) listed at 10 pumps. I had commonly used seven. I switched to 5 knowing that I'd likely need to move the sites a little up, and I did. But after a little practice and after switching to the rounded-nose pellets, I was getting pretty good results. So I guess what they say about those pellets is true. Someone also said for optimal results you need to clean the barrel as well. I've never cleaned the barrel of this one so I'm going to find the means to do so. Or not. If you're using soft lead pellets, it may not be necessary to clean the barrel at all.
