This is something to help one get up in the morning.
I listened to several versions today and I liked this one with Sir Georg Solti and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra the best. Unfortunately, nothing I have heard on the internet comes close to the high fidelity one can hear with the old LP or even CDs. (I thought I had posted this piece sometime in the past, but it is not here under classical music.)

That's a beautiful peace.
I'm piping that right now through Bluetooth from my PC to my JVC/Ohm stereo system...the one I got years ago from my sister. These are the speakers I refurbed a few years back.
You're right. The sound on this particular one is a little rough. YouTube is at least partially responsible for that. I'm going to see if I can find that piece on Adagio and see how it sounds.

I was playing some old records yesterday. My brother has a small collection of this and that. And I've got a turntable that I have hooked up through my 27" iMac and a decent pair of desktop speakers. I ran across this album by Billy Vaughn. Billy Vaughn? Who dat? I guess you could describe him as a more modernized (and listenable) Lawrence Welk. (And I did listen to one of Welk's albums yesterday. Even nostalgia could make it palatable.) Whatever the case may be, I ran into this song and it shook some memories loose. I had heard it often before. But where? I was quite sure it was used as a theme by an old game show. But I couldn't think which one. Extra credit if you can remember without Googling (which I was forced to do).

I racked my mind, going through various shows and The Match Game kept coming back to me, but I wasn't completely sure. I checked and, somewhat surprisingly, that was it.
I like the song very much.

Ding ding ding. We have a winner. I racked my brain and couldn't come up with it. We're going to watch one of those old Match Games on YouTube for lunch tomorrow. It's a totally different format. Peggy Cass is in the pilot episode.

So you remember the discussions between Tim and me as to the best female singer. Tim liked Petula Clark, but I always said that Karen Carpenter was the best. No vocal gymnastics, no screaming. Just pure tone and control.
Once again, my respect for Fil has gone up. He seems to hear what I hear.

I think Petula Clark is a fine singer. And, of course, I've always liked Julie Andrews. And there are some great classical/opera singers such a Maria Callas.
But like Fil said, if you wanted the human version of AutoTune in terms of pure tone and control, there is Karen Carpenter. I won't argue against her.
