www.jpost.com/israel-news/culture/article-75626550 years ago, 6 October 1973 I was on the Golan front awaiting attack by Syrian tanks and infantry. This article gives Golda Mier a break claiming she was not properly informed. I suppose that might be possible, however, I know that CIA analysts had come to the conclusion that war was coming as early as 1 Oct. On 4 Oct my partner and I were sent to King Saul Blvd (Mossad HQ) with a war warning from our boss James Angleton. Documents declassified in 2020 showed that Zeira ignored intelligence warnings that Cairo and Damascus were poised to attack, withholding the communications from the government in his belief that the chance of imminent war was “lower than low.” Meanwhile, Dayan objected to fully mobilizing troops in the hours before the war, according to his testimony to the Agranat Commission, which was declassified in 2008.

Helen Mirren as Golda. Hmm, sounds interesting but I wouldn't expect this movie would be any more accurate than when Meryl Streep portrayed Margaret Thatcher.
I would automatically praise her for those statements.
I wasn't there, but I suppose that is possible.
That's rather charming.
I know so little about this war. I'd love to see someone make an accurate movie of it. Perhaps that already exists.
That's worthy of a rimshot.
One commenter writes:
Ouch. And does anyone suppose our military, with its emphasis on making the perverts feel comfortable, is any less incompetent?
Another good comment:
The following is an interesting thought:
Not sure about the following, but I'd be astonished if a film such as this wasn't biased:
To have been a part of that history, Soldier Artler, is an amazing thing.

I remember remarkably little about this war. I believe I had just arrived in Vienna from German studies in Bavaria. My room in the dorm had no TV or radio. None of those I knew in the dorm had either. There may have been a common room with a TV, but I don't recall it. I think it may have been in a basement.
As such, I don't think I heard much about what was happening. My German was certainly not good enough to read a German/Austria newspaper at the time.
So what little I know, I learned some years later. What sticks out in my mind is that Israel came very close to being overrun and Richard Nixon finally ordered enough munitions and equipment to be sent to Israel. With those the IDF could avoid a disaster.

The leftists media, is always going to give a leftist politician a break. Sadly, so very true. Golda was of the group of Sabras who dominated Israeli politics for over 50 years. Most of them grew up on Kibbutz or Moshav and were schooled in socialism, of the Israeli kind, from birth. It's not surprising most governments before Bibi were heavily socialist. The amazing thing is the economic rebound over the last 30 years as the socialist restrictions have come off. I find it possible that important information was withheld from her in the days leading up to the war. Sadat and Asaad had been running drills simulating attack for several years. Israel is a small country with a small professional military. They could not afford to mobilize every time the Arabs showed an attack posture. Mossad and Shin Bet depended on American intelligence to give warning when Egypt and Syria crossed the trip wire. We did exactly that. We were constantly flying SR-71 and U-2s over the entire middle east. I know for an absolute fact that a war warning went directly to Mossad no later than 5 Oct 73. Even 12 hours to mobilize reserves and the situation would have been much different, especially on the Syrian front. When we got in country, I contacted my friend Mier Dagan and personally told him the war was happening. He was given orders to stand down in the Saini. The information was there, no one wanted to believe it. the high brass of the IDF who had won so brilliantly in 67 were suffering victory disease and chose to ignore all the signs and warnings. Richard Nixon finally ordered enough munitions and equipment to be sent to Israel. With those the IDF could avoid a disaster. The ammunitions were defiantly needed but what was most need was the black boxes for the fighters to defeat the Soviet SAMs. Once those arrived, they were the first thing Golda asked for, the IDFAF was able to gain strategic control of the air and take the pressure off the infantry and tanks on the fronts. Nixon was a lot of things but he saved our asses the first week of the war. I will be forever grateful. Politically it was a dangerous thing for him to do, but it was righteous.

Thanks for the further background.
And call it antisemitism or whatever, but it's interesting how the question is framed in that article: It's Israel's fault for not making peace with the aggressor on the aggressor's terms.
Does the Left demand that China give back Tibet? If so, it's a moral stance, for the Tibetans did not make war on China. It was the other way around. Still, they don't. China may keep what it took by force.
But some countries make war on Israel, get their asses kicked, and lose territory. But it is assumed that Israel has no right to this territory.
The same thing bothers me about Ukraine. If Putin would just back himself into his own country and stop invading someone else, problem solved. But, no, somehow it's Ukraine's fault for having the temerity of putting up a defense and asking for help from other countries.
