As I noted to the wife of a ten-year Army guy the other day, this isn't simply a political disagreement between right and left. It has progressed to a dichotomy between crazy and not-crazy.
I won't right here outline a laundry list of examples (men can menstruate). But there is sufficient evidence that the dogma of the Left is making people off-kilter. They are approaching, even surpassing, a type of mental unwellness.
Depression and suicide are much on the rise. Obesity and the galaxy of ugly tattoos is certainly a sign of ill-health. Just the general proclivity to believe "as many as six impossible things before breakfast" sets oneself up inherently for a battle against reality. And unreality is surely one of the paths to mental illness.
This is not a wish to re-stigmatize mental illness, although we see where this liberal propensity has taken us. It's become a self-fulfilling prophesy. If everything is a "mental wellness" issue and nothing is a behavioral or "moral choice" issue, then you're not to blame for anything. And I would say the entire "mental health profession" has done little but allow people to further baste in their own problems without resolution.
One thing I always admire about Dr. Phil (who seems to have taken a right-turn of late) is that a key component of his therapy (if you can call the carnival shows on TV "therapy") was to not let people get away with their own bullshit. He would pass it back at them. He would not let them get away with saying six impossible things. The premise in his mind, surely, is that half of any problem is the inability and unwillingness of people to see their own faults.
We have lost that ability. If you're just flat-out crazy and believe you are a woman trapped in a man's body, the ability to take personal responsibility for this (even if you do believe this is the case) is gone. Now we are expected to take part. The requirement is to accept the pronouns being used by these crazies. And this occurs everywhere in society on a hundred different issues. You are not (at least officially and without risk) allowed to differ. Instead, you are required to basically cater to and thus take on the mental ill-health (or just loony ideas) of others. And I do believe we absorb the ill-health of others via this type of social osmosis.
None of this is news to anyone here. But we have reached the point where I would say we are losing the ability to function as a society. The crazies are becoming too crazy and they are multiplying. And they have been given the power of mass-media and mass-entertainment to spread their craziness. There is almost no escaping the crazy.
The above is a diagnosis not a remedy. And I don't think there's anything we can immediately do about it. But stating it out loud I think goes a long way to not getting caught up in the crazy.
