My first reaction, when I see such a picture, is to grab a can of Raid Ant and Roach Killer so as to protect myself.
The truth is many (most?) people always have been followers. They enjoy the security of the crowd. The praise they can receive from others in the crowd. They follow the social norms, they parrot social niceties, love to be told to what to do and think. This is one reason it is so important that a society have social norms, cultural standards, traditions and moral guidelines which unite a healthy, productive and sane society. We are seeing what happens when the opposite is the case.

This goes to what I previously wrote. Our society has lost its guidelines, its morals, its sanity. This has resulted it a tremendous lowering of the actual standards required for a society to function well. It shows.
Drastically declining education standards have necessarily resulted in a substantial decline in the expertise needed for many positions in a modern society.
Plummeting morals have resulted in sky-high illegitimacy, which results in higher crime, higher welfare, higher resentment, higher illiteracy and higher mental problems across the board.
Both have led to people's inability to discern reality from fantasy, or to the outright denial of reality. This leads to a society becoming unhinged and unable to address the problems which all communities face. In fact, the denial of reality has dramatically increased the number of problems which society has to face, by the creation and promotion of "problems" which didn't exist before, or had been contained by the developed customs of sane societies for centuries.
With an ever increasing incompetent and detached populous, one can expect for more unqualified and malevolent characters to fill the void and take over the institutions which support a society. Unfortunately, these types will have also been products of the declining community as regards education and morals. Perhaps they will be even worse. Whatever the case, stupid people in the positions of power across a country will take the wrong lessons from history, science and the study of human nature. Both the well-meaning, but merely incompetent, and the crooks amongst them will substantially overestimate their abilities. Both will (are) lead (ing) us to perdition and are too oblivious to notice this.
This will (is) result(ing) in a noticeable general decline of the West. We are seeing it very clearly now. This is not only apparent to us in our own countries. Everyone else around the world, not living in the West, is seeing it as well.
Unfortunately, but ironically, I am beginning to believe the only way to stop this decline will be a major defeat overseas. I believe only a substantial decline in our power, relative to other nations, will get our attention. Only a huge shock to the globalist system, which we have allowed to grasp so much power and money, will have any chance to wake up Americans. I see that defeat developing, because the leftists in our midst have been working to destroy the country for a long time. And they have been assisted, knowingly or not, by the money-grabbing right. But I think the loss of America's standing, the shock which is coming our way, will surprise them. It will wake up, maybe even stir up Americans. Not defeat them.

And I certainly am not the kind of iconoclastic kook who thinks himself better because he is different. But the reality is...I have indeed found myself to be a stranger in a strange land. I doubt that I'm alone in this regards. Welcome to our benighted universe. you did not miss much by not teaching. I have taught a few classes as guest lecturer at university and the level of stupidity among the brains full of mush just keeps growing. When we were younger, say 50 years ago, there was still a level of sanity to be found in education. Professors my age, yes there are some that still teach, the number grows smaller daily; even if they disagree with a political position are not adverse to allowing the student to explore and learn. However, teachers who obtained their degrees after 2001 are almost all of the leftist tradition. There is no tolerance of "incorrect political views". If your not in the with the lemmings headed for the abyss your not considered a useful part of society. In fact, you are cast out, disparaged, degraded, dishonored and left for dead by there by new/old leftists. There are more and more castaways daily. We can ask ourselves when will the weight of those cast out reach a boiling point? I am not sure it is possible for enough normal people to come to actual rebellion in the 21st century. We have surrendered so much in the last 30 years that even with the assistance of the 2nd amendment and the 300 million weapons and ammo it may be a lost cause. A weapon does no good without someone willing to use it. Might as well be a paper weight. When our parents were young government was smaller in part because government feared the voter. Government no longer fears the voter. The frauds of the past election cycles only go to prove that the individual voter is no longer relevant to the system.

The Sound of Silence A good analysis of the S&G but missing a crucial element. Both were brought up in Jewish homes just after WWII. The Sounds of silence touches S&G Jewishness in a strange manner. There is a tradition among the Hasids of Eastern Europe of raising children in silence, especially those who have demonstrated intellectual accomplishments. A father recognizing his son(s) may be intellectually superior to their peers will after about age 6 only have the most necessary conversations with his son. This is not to inflict pain, although it does, but to teach the son to better regard his and others soul. I don't know if either of the two was raised in this manner, but there is a very Jewish cry of pain in the Sounds of Silence, surely both knew what they were talking about.

Those observations touch upon why I believe the only chance to purge the people of the illiterate and idiotic criminals who rule us is a major foreign defeat of some kind. This may, probably will, include the collapse of the US$. But a significant loss of American power is already taking place and the fools running things don't have a Neutral, much less Reverse, gear. They will bring about their own destruction and, unfortunately, that of millions of others by their arrogance, greed, stupidity and finally desperation.
I would like to think changing the people in government would help, but I fear our window of opportunity is not that long. In any case, most of those in the Repukelican Party are little better than the Demonrats. Yes, the Repukelicans talk a good game, but most are just as arrogant, greedy, stupid and desperate as the Demonrats.

That's an interesting perspective. No doubt there's an element here that would be hard for me to understand. Here's the full lyrics:
I don't consider this song overly important. But clearly "silence" in this context is not a good thing. It does seem to mean a lack of connection, the dullness of unawareness. And maybe that unique Jewish context.
I guess the song means something to me because our culture, for all intents and purposes, is worshiping the Golden Calf. The lyric "the neon god they made" certainly reminded me of that.
Certainly Psalm 46:10 mentions an idea of silence that is (or was) more resonant to philosophical, emotional, psychological, and/or religions connotations in the sphere of non-materialist/non-atheist culture: Be still, and know that I am God
In modern language you might write is as: Turn off your phone. And you're not the center of the universe, Snowflake.
The Biblical original is more concise. But once in a while you do have to interpret things for a modern oddience.

I tend to believe the origins to be more prosaic. Simon is a short, not-very-attractive, awkward, nerdy guy. These character traits would likely have been more pronounced when he was younger. I have my doubts that he had a lot of success with women around the time he wrote the song. I suspect that among other things, music was and still is a solace for the man. Of course, once he became more successful, female company would not be as problematic and his, dare I say it?, alienation would decrease somewhat.
Then again, maybe he just knows how to write a good song.

And. Abso-friggin'-lutely. And are you saying (Googled on "transgender") that perhaps the following is indicative of the inability (or unwillingness) to discern reality?

I'm definitely not of the crowd who look for precise meaning in song lyrics. I know from experience and from observation that song lyrics, although they are often inspired by a person or event, are like Rorschach inkblots; you can see in them what you want.
Poetry is not literalism. Often, the words are driven here and there merely for the need to rhyme. And lyrics are often written because they sound nice. And if the lyrics are ambiguous, all the better because that adds mystery and a sense of importance.
There's an emotional and psychological underpinning as well. Words then become like a Claude Monet impressionist painting. There's an idea, and likely a feeling, that causes words to come out in lyrical, often fuzzy, fashion. But if the writer is even halfway honest (and has adequate depth...aka "not Taylor Swift"), you're not going to get crystal clarity. And I very much suppose that most good writers don't expect any literal translation of their thoughts and feelings.
Still, I think The Sound of Silence is a great song with some interesting lyrics.

I agree, yet Simon was growing as a song writer. Here, in my opinion, is an even better song with very tight lyrics. No vague verses with a number of possible interpretations. Simon hits the listener with a hammer. I loved this song when it came out. I must have been 11 or 12 years old.

The trend is speeding up. I don't know whether to say that Oregon is first or last in the nation. Believe me when I say this is intentional. It's a threefer for those demons running things. 1) Mis-educated ignoramuses are easier to control than educated people, 2) the absolute number and percentage of qualified people in the nation drops quickly, 3) trust in the system necessarily erodes. No. 3 is extremely important. Anything as complex as our society is held together by a huge amount of implicit trust. Once this goes, everything becomes much more difficult. Things will tend to fall apart. Of course, we will need a "strong" government to bring things back to normal. At least that is what the demons want you to believe. Of course, they will people the "strong government." We don nede no reedin no righen to pass

Yes, great song...and lyrics. A winter's day In a deep and dark December I am alone Gazing from my window to the streets below On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow I am a rock I am an island I've built walls A fortress deep and mighty That none may penetrate I have no need of friendship, friendship causes pain It's laughter and it's loving I disdain I am a rock I am an island Don't talk of love Well I've heard the word before It's sleeping in my memory I won't disturb the slumber of feelings that have died If I never loved I never would have cried I am a rock I am an island I have my books And my poetry to protect me I am shielded in my armor Hiding in my room safe within my womb I touch no one and no one touches me I am a rock I am an island And a rock feels no pain And an island never cries – In a Wiki article, Simon explains: Give that guy special marks for his honesty, at least regarding this. Having read at least half of his Wiki page, what a momentous career. He packed a lot in. Astounding, really.

That is stupid beyond my powers of description. But I'll try. Since the beginning of time, some people have had to work harder than other people to achieve success of one kind or another. It is called "trying to better oneself through extra effort." Not only can one improve in the specific area one is addressing, but a couple of additional gains might be gained, e.g. learning the virtue of hard work and that everything in life is not easy. This is normally part of the maturation process, but our sociopathic overlords want a nation of infants.
Two more observations.
1. Any business venture which turned out such a defective and deficient product as that produced by our public-education system, would close in a month. I am convinced that one of the main reasons this has not happened is that the public-school system is, to a very degree, a national baby-sitting service. The powers-that-be wanted to socialize the cost of child care so they could get more cheap labor in the work force. industry.
2. One might reasonably posit that the real intent of these demons is to keep "people of color" (read blacks) so ignorant as to keep them on the modern plantation.

For sure. Unless it was part of a cable package. For sure, again. We discussed this before and I would bore you by repeating it all. But, yeah, way down on the list of priorities is effectively preparing students in the skills of "Reading, writing, and 'rithmatic." Flip a coin: Heads: The soft bigotry of low expectations. Tails: The Tyranny of Empathy. And there's certainly no reasons that both couldn't be in operation, sometimes at the same time in the same person.

This title of an article at Weltwoche.ch sums up why the left is so bent on flooding the West with refugees.
Die Linke braucht «Flüchtlinge»: Nachdem der Kapitalismus die Proletarier mit Wohlstand ausgestattet hatte, ging die Linke auf die Suche nach neuen Proletariern und wurde in fernen Ländern fündig
translation
The Left needs "refugees": After capitalism brought prosperity to the proletarians, the Left searched for new proletarians and found them in far-away lands.
These bastards will never give up.

You got the "bastards" part right. And it's the same vibe behind "the homeless." Everyone is a refugee who needs mothering. Yes, you can see both sides of this: the intentionally evil people at the top, and the useful idiots who inhale these bad fumes like secondhand smoke but think they are the second coming of Florence Nightingale.
Did I go for more than five minutes without mentioning that Nikki Haley is an idiot? My apologies.

Why is the Biden Administration doing this? I say that the "why" is not important. What's important is acknowledging what is happening and stopping it. (Hint as to why. They hate America and want to destroy it.) This is probably the single most important problem facing our country today. We're here for the welfare, free medical care and beer
