Why is this night different from all other nights?
1 On all other nights we eat leavened products and matzah, and on this night only matzah.
2 On all other nights we eat all vegetables, and on this night only bitter herbs. 3 On all other nights, we don’t dip our food even once, and on this night we dip twice.
4 On all other nights we eat sitting or reclining, and on this night we only recline.

This might sound like a loaded question. But it isn't: What does Passover mean to you?

I am not much on ritual but the Seder has special meaning to all not just Jews. But since you asked what it means to me. I will attempt to answer as best I can.
Give or take it is 3000 years between the exodus from Egypt and the signing of our Constitution. And the Exodus story is deeply rooted in the founding of this country. Freedom of all types is such a precious thing. As an American Jew I have freedoms that many Jews never had especially in Europe. I thank my stars that my grandmother never gave up her faith when she married my grandfather in Indiana in 1912, although I think even without the Ashkenazi heritage I would not be much different.
For me when I recall Moses, his brother Aaron, and the thousands leaving Egypt they are not some dusty racial memories but real people, my parents, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins escaping tyranny for a new life. The Seder is not a ritual for the deceased but for us, the living when a tribe walked out of slavery into the desert and became a nation.
It is also why, although I have citizenship in Israel, and would defend her again as I did in 73. I remain in America and remain ready to defend America just as much. Does it contribute to a dual loyalty? Under some leaders, American and Israeli it would, but DJT and I have one thing in common, we both have Jewish grandchildren, their self proclaimed enemies are my enemies.

Thanks for relating at least part of what it means to you. I’m sure it means for than you can impart in four paragraphs and I can appreciate that. I’ll have more to say later. I just finished reading the free Kindle sample of Dennis Prager’s The Rational Bible: Genesis. No major surprises because I’ve picked most of this up in bits and pieces from his radio show. Perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of the book is the introduction which I will quote from later as we work our way to Passover.

Tempted to buy their third album which has a few songs that are original. But I dislike buying compilation albums.

Some people think I have a little OCD in me. But that’s not it. I’ve listened to both these albums now so many times, I’m developing a craving for unleavened bread.

According to Jewish law a minimum of ten men is required for formal prayers. In some places that is against the stay at home/assemby orders.

Well, Nefresh Mountain in stereophonic accounts for at least six (three players times two) plus me is seven. Not quite a quorum but pretty groovy.

As a kid, I used to love it with soft butter spread across it. I could go through a box like Grant went through Richmond. I haven't had any Matzo for probably five years. It is not cheap these days. I think a box can be something like $8.

That’s a nice slice-of-life story . . . err . . . slice of matzo.

My mother and I used to eat matzohs straight-up as snacks. They were too fragile to butter. But then, we've had this discussion before, probably at ST.

A nice photo of matzo even if it all does look a little dry. Does one typically dip it in something or put cheese on it? And I don't mean Cheez Whiz. That would be tacky. Maybe this would be okay.

Thus the butter. But I don't think I could spread even very soft butter on those.
Those look like home-made matzo, which appears to be very similar to papadam

Here’s a recipe for Papadams at Food.com. For my skill and patience level, it looks a little involved or else I might try it. However, this recipe at Recipeland.com looks a little simpler. I wonder if Cheez Whiz would be good on them? But this slightly simpler recipe, I could try.

The matzohs we ate were rectangular. I suppose clarified butter or melted cheese could be poured on them. This would be similar to the cheese crisps that Elizabeth and I often had for lunch: shredded cheese on a tortilla, then baked until the cheese melts. We originally got the idea at a local Mexican restaurant (Chico's) that very unfortunately went out of business. (They also had sopapillas with honey. Also very nice.) But the tortillas remain soft when doing that.
In any case, we ate our matzohs plain. They tasted good enough as it was.

I like them best dry or with various Indian chutneys. I don't think I could take Cheez Whiz.

Elizabeth and I used to go to the lunch buffet at Shalimar Indian Restaurant for our Christmas dinner, and they had various chutneys (and other sauces) to try on breads. That was mainly naan; I don't recall seeing papadam despite eating in many Indian restaurants over the years.

Frying up some naan sounds like another good Wuhan Enforced Authoritarian Sequester of Everyone Leisure Skills activity. (Acronym: WEASELS) Here’s a recipe at AllRecipes.com

I opened Apple Music on my fantastic iPad Pro the other day and it offered up some new music. One of these was a new track called “Wanderlust” by Nefresh Mountain. I've heard of that group from somewhere. Nefresh Mountain’s website notes that this track is from their upcoming album, Songs for the Sparrow, which is due out June 11. Here’s the track listing: Wanderlust A Sparrow’s Song Somewhere On This Mountain Big Mountain (feat. Sam Bush & Jerry Douglas) Piece Of The Sun (for Anne Frank) Where Oh Where Suite For A Golden Butterfly In The Wide Open Air I’ve Endured Evermore (Hashkiveinu) In The Here And Now (feat. Sam Bush & Jerry Douglas) These Wayward Winds Tree Of Life David And Goliath (Bonus Track) [feat. Bryan Sutton] An additional track was featured on their website: Shabbat Shalom
