Nefesh Mountain is performing a free concert tonight at 2000 EST. This is a group that is very popular in Jewish communities. The style is Bluegrass, but with a distinctly Jewish twist. We call it Jewgrass. Like every performer some of their songs are unexceptional some are ok and others are pure genius. IMHO there are only two completely American forms of music Jazz and Bluegrass. I hope you find yourself tapping your foot tonight. www.nefeshmountain.com/#home

I listened to the 4:38-39 minute video and they are excellent musicians. I am not sure the woman added much, but every musician must have his muse and she must be that for the guitarist. On the other hand, from the words of the song, one might believe the muse is God.
It was strange to hear them switch to Hebrew (I assume) but it had a Blue Grass accent.

One of the reasons they are popular in Jewish communities is the cross of traditional Eastern European Jewish melodies with the inventive essence of Bluegrass. It makes for some exciting music. A large part of their repertory comes from Torah so in many respects the muse is G-d. It was strange to hear them switch to Hebrew (I assume) but it had a Blue Grass accent.
That's why its called Jewgrass

Thanks, Artler. My inner Jew will likely find some good vibes. I found two of their albums on Apple Music: Beneath the Open Sky, and Nefesh Mountain. I'm listening ot Beneath the Open Sky right now.

Just about finished with the first album is actually pretty good. It’s the kind of music that I occasionally listen to although I’ve never called a Jew grass but I like the term

I missed that part where they say I’m going to cap that pig and my Knigge bitch is going to be my slave. I keep hearing these lyrics about brother and sister. How this is very very strange and foreign.

I will really like river song from Nefesh Mountain IMHO Eret's Reel, Xander the Highlander, and Millie"s waltz are some of the most creative that you can find in Bluegrass. The one thing, I find, about good music is that it makes you feel good. The only music that is free of any good feeling is hip-hop or rap. Those are their only two albums so far, I heard there are plans for another in late summer or early fall assuming we are allowed to have a change in season by the commissars.

Some say God sung the world into existence. I would not equate this band to that level but you get a taste of that

Jewish musicians? How is that possible? BTW did you know most of the traditional secular Christmas music was written by Jews?

Yes, Millie’s waltz is a very good instrumental. This music, both albums, make for good gardening music. That’s not to demean it or put it down but it does work for that.

Well, with all the excrement going on, it was a pleasant afternoon to listen to some restorative music. (I don’t wish to damn it by calling it “wholesome.”) My inner Jew is nicely sated. Mr. Flu may have reservations about the chick singer, but she certainly comports herself in the last song on Nefresh Mountain called “Adonai Love Me.” A very nice not-over-produced song with a strong vocal and a tinkling of banjos and mandolins.
One song on this album ("Run Mountain") is so hillbilly that you'll get a craving for moonshine and marrying your cousin.

Yes, Xander the Highlander is a pretty good tune. Re-listened to Eretz’s Reel again. That’s some great banjo pickin. Lots of picking going on, really.

One of the benefits of Apple Music is that it will make suggestions of “other music like so-and-so.” It recommended Noah Aronson. Not my cup of tea. Voice is to0 modernish girly-man. Too adult contemporary. The next Apple Music suggestion was Nava Tehlia. Still a little adult contemporary but far less girly-man. In fact, I think that’s a chick singing on the first track of the album, Havayah. They got a little fiddle going in there. I like that. I may bookmark this album and come back to it. It seems to be honest with a slightly (G-d bless them) minimalist slant on their music. So much stuff these days is so over-produced. The third group suggested by Apple Music is George Mordecai & The Comets. (Sorry, I mean “& The Hadar Ensemble"). I get those two mixed up. Definitely seems to be going full-Jew based on the first song. Or is that a Hindu influence? Do they have a word for that? Jindu? Hinjew? Good singer. Good production values. Probably not my cup of Shoko Besakit. All of the above are categorized as “World” music via Apple Music. “World” is not a good category generally. It typically means “liberal.” Nefesh Mountain is categorized as “Country.” Woo. That’s good. When in doubt, I can always play my “Perlman Plays Klezmer” album.

I'm going to sample a band called The Andy Statman Klezmer Orchestra. The album is Klezmer Suite.
Statman is apparentlly best known as a blluegrass mandolinist so this could turn out to be very listenable. I find the Klezmatics, for instance, way too hyperkinetic.
