Newsweek reporting the truth? Will miracles never cease? What a tragedy our reaction to the KFF has been. As I reminded someone the other day (to quote Prager), it's not the KFF that was so damaging. It was our disastrous reaction to it.
And you know the rest of my spiel. Hysterical women. Men without backbones. Blah blah blah. A real shame.

I believe the main point to be taken from this article is that just about every so-called charity, self-help model, do-gooder program in America is a grift from the start, or becomes one very shortly thereafter.
For example, not only are the Demonrats allowing millions of illegals flood the country, they are paying NGOs and other "charity groups" such as the Catholic Church hundreds-of-millions, if not billions of dollars to take care of the "unfortunate" illegals. From this bundle of government funding you can be sure that millions find their way back to funding the campaigns of Demonrat politicians who pass the laws which fund the "charity" groups's operations. A totally corrupt operation. American tax payers are financing their own destruction.
Federal, State and Local governments are funding leeches to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars. A goodly portion of this is returned to the pockets of those who mandate the funding of the leeches. What a system.

Are you saying that the purpose of most “therapy” and charity is to deflect responsibility for one’s actions (personal or governmental)? I’m shocked, shocked that you would think that.
That’s a broad brush but I do believe that most charity these days facilitates corruption rather than curing it.

Another instance of sanity prevailing in a psychotic world. As I have said before, the only way to defeat the leftist/globalist tyranny, short of massive bloodshed, is the long hard slog through the legal system. This takes time and a lot of money, but it must be done to (at least partially) shut down the loonies. Man awarded $10 million for illegal termination

That’s a broad brush but I do believe that most charity these days facilitates corruption rather than curing it. Very true, however, I would like point out that the reason charities are waist deep in waste deep shit is the fault of the government and 501(C)3 status. The tax code is now so broad and complex that avoiding taxes is a full time job, not just for business, but also charities. Of course, the tax exemptions were made for supposed noble reason, "public good, social well being". Of course, "everyone agrees", religious institutions, charities and the like are serving the public and should not be taxed on their sources of income. Is it any wonder that every university has endowments of hundreds of millions, several hundreds of billions and counting. In this economic Libertarians have it exactly correct. It is a corrupting influence and all of these institutions should never have tax exempt status. No matter the intended good of the organization to start it will morph into a self-serving political organization within one generation.

Artler, I haven't thought much about the tax-exempt status being a corrupting influence. I dare say, you are surely correct although I do think it's a good thing if government keeps out of church or synagogue business...including collecting taxes.
But those lines have been so thoroughly blurred now. Look at the Catholic Church, for instance. There's no reason for Jews to hate Catholics. There's damn little Jesus left in the Church. It's one big 501-C-like organization from what I can tell. And if you tell a gay person that they ought to pray the gay away (which I agree with in some instances) then you could lose your tax exempt status.
For what we have through the tax scheme is now a way to control these institutions when, arguably, exempting them from taxes was meant originally to achieve the opposite.

It's worth reading the transcript of this Tucker Carlson monologue. The general tone and demeanor kind of reminded me of Mr. Flu. I'm more the Coulter type.

Once again, I am glad to see Dreher is beginning to see the world as it truly is. In my opinion, he was an impediment to shining the light on what was happening in the US and the rest of the world. His pie-in-the-sky self-righteous approach to (other than religious) problems was misguided, in my opinion. I can't give examples as I am talking about some of his writings from years back, but the over-all impression is still with me that he had little time (contempt) for many who were actually dealing with cultural and political problems in the trenches. He pontificated his received wisdom from above. Still, life is a journey and he is making his.
I tire of the constant accusations about Putin being a tyrant. Some years ago, a friend in Asia made the observation that Putin was a bad man. My immediate reply was "So what? Can you give me one historical example of Russia being ruled by a nice guy?" Of course, he couldn't.
In some ways, I look at Putin as something of a typical strong man, except that he is very intelligent. He climbed the ladder in the Russian intelligent service, somehow finagled his way into the position of VP to Boris Yelsin, took over from Yelsin without bloodshed and has remained in power for over 20 years. During this time, there has been no bloody clampdown on the populace and the lives of Russians have improved. Sadly, or not, a few anti-Putin journalists have been mysteriously murdered. This has been blown out of proportion because the world press loves and admires nothing so much as itself and screams like a stuck pig when one of its own is hurt, particularly when this occurs in Russia. Although many journalists have been killed around the world over the last two decades, the few who died in Russia have received a lot of coverage.
Putin's corruption is fairly traditional. It is the type of thing seen throughout history. Has Putin profited from his time in power? Of course. More importantly, he has positioned himself as a counter-weight to the criminal syndicate that is the USA/Globalist government. Putin's actions and political positions are seen throughout history. Corruption is endemic in human government. You might say it is a virus which has been with us from the beginning. I can't get too excited about this.
On the other hand, the evil which is being perpetrated by the US and globalist elites is only seen in the plagues of Bolshevism and Nazism. They deny mankind its very humanity. They call white black and up down in order to confuse, humiliate and finally destroy the souls of a populace. The road the present elites are on is one which will lead us to much worse destinations that Putin's Russia.

Real quick, it's clear from the way he hawks his book that he's a member in good standing of The Conservative Book club. So it doesn't shock me that his actual presence in this war is more of a bystander, and one who may have tsk-tsked at those who were actually in the trenches.

Putin Much of what is said about Putin fits the bill. I have no illusions that he is some kind of latter day revolutionary but he is not the monster our so-called democrats want to make hime out to be. For reasons passing understanding both American political parties have over the last 20 years have reverted to the old Cold War position advocated by the Truman doctrine and George Kennan. 60 years ago the Soviets were the enemy and with good reason, but that time is past it the kind of news you pout in the bottom of the cat box. The Putin we need to deal with today is a nationalist as every Russian Czar in the 18th and 19th century. A practical American leader would make use of Putian's position as a buffer to CCP ambitions in Asia. Instead we seem to be pushing him into alliance with the CCP.

This piece by John Derbyshire is somewhat related to my rant about Putin. While Derbyshire concentrates on China, I think we come to very similar conclusions. I would say Putin and Russia are presently about mid-way between the situations in the USA and China. Whose elites have a grasp on reality? I have always like Derbyshire. Since we have had similar life experiences (we both spent years in Asia and have Chinese wives) we seem to see things through a similar lens.

Food for thought indeed.
Much truth in that.
Indeed
Yes.
I would amend that, or add to that, that the driving force is shaping policies to satisfy a spoiled and hyper-emotional thirteen year old girl.
I, of course, agree with that wholeheartedly.
Women are at the heart of this current insanity. Men just play to them for power.

The Chinese have a long tradition of condemning female rulers. They generally ruled behind the scenes in devious ways and have been seen as doing great damage to the Middle Kingdom. Xi may think of Jiang Qing, but the major historical example of the country-destroying female is the Empress Dowager: Cixi She was an object lesson to all educated Chinese on the dangers of female power.

Hadn't heard of Cixi, Mr. Flu. My opinion is that women are dangerous to governance because they are without honor. They have no self-limiting factor in their psychology.
Men are brutal, ruthless, corrupt, self-serving, and despotic. But they, and they alone, can be appealed to regarding a sense of justice, of right-and-wrong, of honorable conduct. I believe that most women are beyond this. They would torch the world to satisfy a passing emotion.

Ashamed, hell! The Chinese are the master race and if you don't believe it ask them. Like the Greeks, they see OTCs (other than Chinese) as barbarians. China in not called the Middle Kingdom for nothing.
When I lived in Asia, I would often come across some romantic, deranged ethnomasochist American (mainly) or European waxing eloquent about how great China/the Chinese were, blah, blah, blah. If I wanted to get a rise out of them, and I always did, I would point how the lowest Chinese coolie would spit on them as being a disgusting barbarian from an inferior race. They would always rise to the bait at which time I would ask whichever Chinese man or woman who was with us if I was right or not. The Chinese would always say something like, "Sorry, but Kung is correct." I cannot recall one time the Chinese disagreed with me. Believe me, they weren't trying to spare my feelings as I was generally the only Ang Mo Kwee (Redheaded Devil) in any group who expressed such thoughts. I believe many Chinese would open up and tell the truth in my presence because I took the time and effort to understand the history and culture of Chinese and didn't lord around claiming Westerners were superior to Asians. I was actually interested in their opinions and them as people.
