On the issue of cancel culture

Several years ago when the first Antifa riots were happening and they were destroying statues of confederate soldiers nationwide. I wrote Chancellor of the University Joseph Steinmetz inquiring why the University of Arkansas had a statue of the racist J. W. Fulbright in front of Old Main and why the Fulbright College which focuses on humanities was named after a man who was a racist. I received no answer. Not that I was surprised and I did not really want the statue taken down or the college name changed. Fulbright represents the zeitgeist of the time as do Lee, Jackson and so many others represent the tempor of their time. Perhaps if they just put a facemark on the statue it could stay.

However, pressure from students who seem to have just found out about JWF have succeeded. I am sure a name change for the college will happen in the next few years. At which time people will go-------Who?
Also in the works is the cancellation Charles Hillman Brough, governor of AR. in the 20s and one time president of the university who is also fated to disappear in the Orwellian purge of history. His crime dedicating the Prairie Grove battlefield and accepting it into the state park system from the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
