Two-hundred-forty-six years ago today, Americans fought and bloodied the British at the Battle of Bunker Hill. During the battle, Dr. Warren was killed. Some historians believe he would have been as important to the American cause as was George Washington. The Battle of Bunker Hill

I do not recall ever seeing the Bunker Hill flag before. I understand the English flag in the upper-left-hand corner, but don't know what the tree means, nor the color. Perhaps, it is a take on the Union Jack.

An interesting article on Donald Rumsfeld by Edward Luttwak. It shows how the elite work and what problems they can cause or make worse. The country took its eye off the ball with the failed Middle East policies pursued since 1991. For whatever reasons, Trump was trying to reverse this. Donald Rumsfeld

On the 27th of June 1976 a plane headed to Tel Aviv was hijacked and flown to Uganda. The government of Israel put together a rescue mission headed by Yoni Netanyahu, the brother of the former PM. I met Yoni on the Golan front in 73 when he was a major. I was asleep in an aid station after 4 days of very intense combat. He kick my foot, waking me and asked what the hell an American Marine was doing there. I replied, "I am observing in an aggressive manner". We chatted for a few minutes and he headed off to his assigned job. Yoni was the only Israeli casualty on the raid, saving the hostages on this day 1976. A hero who died for freedom. Lest we forget. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yonatan_Netanyahu

Let us not forget Ord Winghate who in the intifadas of the late 30s trained Haggadah and Palmach troops in counter guerrilla tactics. And Col Mike Marcus who was the first general in the new Israeli army. After the war it was another American who assisted the young state to form Mossad, James Jesus Angleton.

Hope everyone had a nice Independence Day. My sort of sucked. I went out to my older brother’s house and was bored. But I did take the opportunity to hike about 4 miles around the rural area.
It’s getting more and more where I just don’t care to be around people. That’s on me, I know. But it’s just how it is. It’s like I’ve already thought every thought and now have about zero that I want to talk to people about. That doesn’t include yuze guys. But out in the real world, I find more camaraderie with a tree than with people.
I know that sounds like another Unabomber in the making. But people are just so obtuse these days, I find myself smiling and staying silent. I’m sure a robust conversation with John Adams is just what I need.

Brad, My lovely wife was born on the 4th of July. Thus, she is an original Yankee Doodle dandy and it was her 70th birthday so all the fireworks were for her, at least that is what she told the grandchildren, only the 9 year old bought it. We awoke yesterday morning and the refrigerator, almost 19 years old, has decided to return to room temperature. So we spent the day unloading and transporting as much food as possible to her daughters house. Today we purchased a refrigerator that cost more than my first car and which will not be delivered until next week.
I am coming to the conclusion that home appliances are scheduled to die on holidays. A few years ago it was the dryer--thanksgiving weekend. Before that it was the washer Easter weekend, and a hotter heater Christmas about 10 years ago. The simple things that save time and effort around the house are getting more expensive.
I concur with your thoughts about being around people. I have found myself becoming more recluse over the last 5 years or so. I no longer have any need to go on campus and frankly, the atmosphere is hostile to anyone expressing a conservative or libertarian philosophy that aggravates me so much that it is better for my heart to avoid this kind of upset. My peers in the history department have retired and moved to the country to play golf, a sport I could never get into. Mark Twain called it, "a good walk spoiled".

Congrats on the new frig. I’ve seen some of the prices on those stainless steel jobies at Lowe’s. You can easily spend a couple grand on a refrigerator. It might even be a “smart” refrigerator. I suppose that means it can tell you whether or not the light bulb goes off when you shut the door.
Happy Birthday greetings to the lovely wife. I love the idea of all the fireworks being for her.
A good walked spoiled. I hadn’t heard that term for golf. Makes sense. I had a good walk on the 4th and will try to make time to take about a 3.5 miler tomorrow.

Sounds like me. My wife has said to people that I would have no problem in solitary confinement as long as I had my books and a computer. I guess she is not far off the mark.
On the other hand, none of the people that I care to be around live anywhere near me so maybe it's just my location.

Today in 1945, the Japanese Empire officially signed the terms of surrender to the Allies. MacArthur and the MissouriOn September 2, 1939, Nazi Germany invaded Poland, which started the war which was ended on September 2, 1945. Germany invades Poland The USA stood at the pinnacle of power twice. First, after the end of WWII at which time the USA shared power with the USSR. Second, after the fall of the USSR in 1991 at which time the USA held a unique position in history as to its combination of relative power, absolute power and ability to project power around the world in a matter of days. No other country in history has come close to this combination. Sadly, our corrupt elites have thrown it away in a matter of three decades. Unbelievable.

It is hard to believe that those two airliners flew into the World Trade Towers twenty years ago today. Like most of you, I recall very clearly where I was when this happened.
Looking back, a fleeting moment of national unity, is the only positive I can see from this. Otherwise, our elites have blown trillions of dollars and thousands of American lives in their insane overseas business ventures called war. (I should correct that from "Blown" to transferred from middle-class Americans and future generations to war-mongers' pockets.)
Further, our elites have expanded and perpetuated the lie that Islam is a religion of peace and just misunderstood by the rest of us.
In addition to that, they gave us the worst economic down turns since the 1930s, created inflation and destroyed our institutions from academia to the military. Now they are killing civil rights of citizens on the back of the greatest in history. What's not to love?

I just came across this piece which gives a good synopsis of the disaster our elites have occasioned on the rest of us since 9/11. I particularly like the fact that the writer points out the horror that is the PATRIOT ACT. I warned against this when it was first mentioned in Congress. Of course, one little voice out in the sticks was not going to have any effect. The PATRIOT ACT and the Homeland Security Department are monsters which came out of the idiotic and irrational thinking of our elites. US$8 Trillion and counting Never forget that the lion's share of that money went back into the pockets of the military-industrial-financial-intelligence-state department complex. The U.S. Military forces make up less than 1% of Americans. All that money didn't go to the ground pounders.

George Bush is a scab. He is the perfect example of the oligarchy I have been writing about. He and his family have made fortunes misusing their power and connections. Beware of violent extremists in America
