Yes, put George W. into the "compassionate idiot" category.

I used to think that. Now I believe he is worse than that. He is in on the scam.

It is hard to believe, but John F. Kennedy was assassinated fifty-eight years ago today.

I was in my first year of high school. The announcement came out that school was dismissed and we all made our way home. To discover that the man who shot JFK was a defector, communist sympathizer, and friend of Cuba. I recall. watching in horror a Jack Ruby killed the POS in the basement of the police station.
In retrospect, it was the beginning of the end of "Happy Daze". Over the next 20 years dissection and war became the norm. If JFK were alive today, he would be called a conservative and run out of the democrat party.

I was in fifth grade. I believe I was sitting in home room when Dr. Rains came over the speaker and asked everyone to stand. He then announced that "President John F. Kennedy died today at 1-something pm."
I have heard that some kids cheered in some Dallas schools, but I didn't hear any such thing. I have my doubts as to the veracity of this rumor.
I have always maintained that end 1963/early 1064 was a watershed period in our history. Between Kennedy's assassination and the Beatles/British Wave, much was about to change--for the worse.

Today, April 21st is San Jacinto Day. Viva Texas Slightly less importantly, Rome was founded on this day 2,775 years ago. Happy Birthday! Roma

Rome is a very old city. It's strange to think that many cities around these parts would fit into the lower three digits of 2,775...some even the last two digits.

Happy Birthday America!
Today, July 2nd, is the date the Continental Congress actually adopted the Declaration of Independence.

Let us remember what John Adams said. He and the other Founding Fathers applied that metric when they founded The United States of America.
We need to get back to the roots of our creation.

To those who, erroneously claim, that the Founders wanted a separation/wall between Church and State, that the U.S.A. was not founded upon Christian principles, I give this quote from John Adams in a letter he wrote to Thomas Jefferson.

Here is the full letter which Adams wrote in answer to a snarky observation Jefferson had made in a letter to Priestly about Christianity and Adams. Reply to Jefferson Jefferson tried to avoid replying to Adams by saying that the letter to Priestly had been private. Jefferson is my least favorite Founder and President. He was a slippery character who was duplicitous and often dishonest.

Just what kind of Protestant is that...or either. First time I've heard those terms. I'm not sure I'd want to be called a "Horse Protestant." But it might have been a very noble thing to be for all I know.

What a great put-down. As good a Protestant as Cromwell's horse. There must be some modern equivalents to this. Maybe: As good a patriot as Whitmer's hairdresser. Maybe loses something in translation. I'm sure you can do better.

LOL. That will work. I was trying to think of one for up north: As Canadian as Justin Trudeau's Cuban father. Not sure if that works.

We have often discussed this topic. It is well to remember that Rome existed for nearly 500 years after Caesar and the Eastern Empire for almost another 1000 years. The argument however, is just the name as the same the old republic died much earlier. I have suggested that all elements of the American old republic died when the Confederacy was certain to lose the war. I have even cited the date, 3 July 1863.
This is the beginning of the modern progressive state began and nothing has stopped its growth for the last 160 years. What we are dealing with today is the acceleration of the progressive state. All semblance to the republic are almost erased from our culture. Oh, there have been some setbacks for the progressive state but over time the success has been constant.
If we truly desire a return to the principles of the old republic, it will require blood and a lot of it with an unknown outcome. I doubt the average American is mad enough to stay the course.
