Yesterday was Presidents Day. When I was growing up, February 22 was celebrated as Washington's Birthday. Of course, that was too straightforward for the politicians and bureaucrats in D.C. so to sooth fevered brows who couldn't take it that Washington owned slaves, and (more importantly) to give federal workers a three-day holiday, they came up with "Presidents Day." I am all for going back to Washington's Birthday and this piece by Don Surber encapsulates why. Not only is Washington the greatest American, he is the greatest man who ever lived. I think Surber might agree. The only man I have ever called my hero

I think the ruling class considered that a feature, not a bug.
There's no disagreement about the most important Founder. But Adams has always been #2 on my list in terms of his importance to building the successful foundations of this nation. He was a nuts-and-bolts man and installed all the right bolts, and very few nuts.
Yes, good column by Surber.

Today, June 6, 2024, is the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy, D-Day. Logistically, this was probably the most difficult military operation in history. To sail across the English Channel, land over 150,000 men in one day and take the beaches was incredibly difficult. That it was done with relatively few loses was also very lucky.
I watched some video of today's ceremonies in Normandy and saw a number of old men who had fought on those beaches. The youngest has to be about 97 years old. I asked myself, what these men, who had fought for America in 1944, thought of today's America.
There was a clip of O'Biden again looking lost. It is a disgrace that this man represents the U.S.A.
