If that's the original carrier Hornet (after it sank, they named a new Essex class carrier after it), the Japanese disinfectant was crippling damage in the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands, which caused it to be abandoned as the surface ships approached (the US had no other carriers available in the area). The Wasp was also sunk the month before, by an I-boat. (Another Essex was named after her, and for that matter one was also named after the Lexington.) The ship (completed shortly after the US entered the war) had played key roles in the Doolittle Raid and Midway.

It seems Procter & Gamble is paying a price for going for woke. Gillette took heavy losses this quarter, enough for the whole corporation to lose money. Very likely their decision to insult their customers played a big role. The link is: Down Gillette

Ha, ha, ha, ha, haaaaaaa! It seems what goes around, does in fact come around. For decades, I only used Gillette razors, but I stopped buying them and plan to never buy another Gillette product.
Their "woke" commercials were about the most insulting and stupid I have ever seen, which was surprising as P&G was famously admired for its understanding of consumer psychology and commercials which were developed to take advantage of this special knowledge. P&G was held in very high regard in business schools across the country. They certainly were when I did my MBA, but that was over 40 years ago so perhaps things have changed.
In any case, I believe P&G has done permanent damage to the Gillette line.

If any were necessary, here is another good example of why a country should not legalize drugs such as marijuana and many opioids.
It is also one more reason to screen immigrants more carefully and shrink the numbers of both legal and illegal immigrants in this country. And get rid of those who are lawless. Yes, I know he came to the USA as a youth.
I would also say, if anyone has seen how they drive in Eastern Europe this may not be surprising.
A few years back, a Polish immigrant semi-driver killed people on highway 75 north of Dallas. As I recall, he was doped up or drunk and left the scene of the crime.
Before anyone starts screaming about stereotyping Slavs, I am just saying other cultures have very different ideas of an ordered society than we in America have. Of course, many native-born Americans are idiots and drive like nuts, but even my wife has noticed that most of the crazy drivers we encounter are clearly immigrants.

Bill Mauldin had interesting things to say about French drivers in Up Front, noting that they stopped by smashing into the rear of the vehicle in front of them. One of his cartoons featured a US truck convey being given bad news: "Men, some of you may not be coming back. A French truck convoy has been reported on the road." I gather Italian drivers have similar reputations.
In fact, it's odd that European drivers seem to be much freer than American drivers. I suspect it's a matter of political freedom -- if you don't have enough, you tend to be more anarchistic in your driving. This is even truer if your culture has some anarchic aspects to it anyway. So Americans, free to spout off as they choose (though this is changing, obviously), are more likely to be careful drivers. It would be interesting to see what effect political correctness and other leftist diseases have on American driving habits if this is true.

I will never forget the first time I moved to Belgium for a few months. I had been warned by other Europeans that the Belgians were horrible drivers who did not pay attention to traffic lights and stop signs.
I took a taxi from the airport and on the way, I saw one driver (Belgian license plate) run through 5 red lights. How could I see that if my taxi driver obeyed the law? I saw it because this crazy driver seemed to be carrying on an internal fight as to whether or not to drive through a red light.
He would drive through one, and speed off until he came up on another one close by. I kept and eye on him as my taxi followed on. As we drove up and slowed down for the red light, the crazy driver seemed to overcome his hesitancy and then drove through the light which he had stopped for. I saw him do this at least 5 times.

So this was your taxi driver who did this? That must have been disconcerting. Fortunately, you made it out in one piece. I wonder what the rate of serious traffic accidents is in such countries compared to America.

No, it was not my taxi driver who was running red lights. It was another guy in a VW Rabbitt (as I recall) who came up to us when we were stopped at a red light. He clearly had a stick shift as the car was lurching a bit like when someone is revving the motor about to sprint off.
The guy looked all round and then drove through the red light. Seconds thereafter the light turned green and we followed. We caught up to the crazy driver who had stopped again at a red light, but clearly wanted to go through it. Once again, he looked around and when things were clear, he ran through the second red light.
The continued for another three lights. I can remember the number of red lights he ran through (5) as it became sort of a game for me to see how many he would run. It was really bizarre, and confirmed what people had told my about crazy Belgian drivers, particularly the part about running red lights, which I had found a bit hard to believe. I know it now to be true. Or at least it was in the early 1980s.

Here is one of many articles which show what a fraud this whole issue has been.
The horrible dyke who was complaining about this and Trump was clearly just trying to gain attention for the time she leaves soccer. Looking for a new job, I would guess.

I'm sure most readers here have at least heard of the parody website the Babylon Bee, purveying "fake news you can trust delivered straight to your inbox". A friend sent me a couple of pieces today, both quite good. One deals with a special blend of materials called Outrage, designed to keep you outraged all the time. Obviously very useful for leftists. The link is: OutrageThe other item has proof that Trump isn't a racist -- he has a copy of the KKK's rejection of his application to join them. (Never mind that in reality any adult would have to be a racist to want to join them, though I wouldn't be surprised if some leftist used exactly that argument against Trump.) The link is:

Jeffrey Epstein is conveniently dead, supposedly at his own hands. He was put on suicide watch after supposedly attempting suicide a few weeks ago, but they stopped it after a week. We're thus left with an interesting situation: Were his guards totally incompetent, or did someone who doesn't want the truth to come out take steps to ensure it wouldn't? (Some are already calling that "arkancide", aptly enough.) For that matter, did someone pay prison management to take Epstein off suicide watch so that this could happen, one way or another?
Of course, the civil lawsuits can still go forward, trying to collect from his estate. (I wonder who would get his personal isle under those circumstances. Would any of the victims want to move there?) But it's still possible that someone who hasn't come up in the suits so far would prefer to keep it that way. William Barr is going to open up an investigation by the DOJ IG.

Given the potential threat to the Clintons my assumption is that this is another case of Arkencide.

I was discussing Epstein with some people on July 27th and made the prediction that he would never live to see the trial as he was a threat to too many powerful people. Now I did not have to be a genius to predict this. Anyone with half a brain could do the same and you can be sure those at the top understood this. So how was he taken off "suicide watch" and not kept under constant observation?
This is another thing that we must hope Barr pursues vigorously. Given the obvious corruption which our legal and intelligence agencies have shown over the last few years, I would not put it past some of those in power to bump off others who might get too close to the facts.
That being said, I do not believe it would make a bit of difference to the fanatical leftists in this country if there were old photos and recordings of Clinton raping 10 year olds with sworn affidavits from the 10 year olds and their procurers. So there was really no need to get rid of Epstein. They only had to make sure some radical Dims ended up on the jury.
This morning I ran into leftist woman who I see occasionally. She was babbling on about the first two names which were released to the public yesterday in the legal case against Epstein. She was sure one of the names was John Mitchell, Nixon's Attorney General. I told her that no this could not be as he was long dead. I told her the people mentioned were Bill Richardson, the former governor of New Mexico, Congressman and Clinton cabinet official and another democrat ex Senator who had been the leader of the Senate. I couldn't recall if his name was Michael or Mitchell. But there was no way it was John Mitchell. The guy had died years back. (In fact, he would be 106 in September of this year were he still alive)
The batty Dim was not convinced and said it could have been John Mitchell. She is simply a manifestation of the incoherence and fanatical prejudice which rules the leftist mind today. These people cannot be reasoned with. Facts mean nothing to them. They must simply be crushed politically, before they crush the rest of us.

The former Senate leader would be George Mitchell of Maine, I assume. As I recall, he retired in 1994 and was replaced by a Republican (Olympia Snowe). I once referred to the 3 GOP Senators who voted for the Obama "Infrastructure" bill in 2009 as Snowe, Arly, and Curly Sue. Of course, Arly soon switched parties and lost in the 2010 primary. Snowe retired in 2012 and was replaced by Angus King. Curly Sue is still there, and is probably the best (or, if you prefer, least bad) of the 3 (or 4 if you add Lisa Murkowski).

Yes, that is correct. I should have mentioned that, as I doubled checked the reports on this and it was indeed old Georgie. I find it makes perfect sense as Bill and his friends, as birds of a feather would flock together.

I wonder, will any of us still be around when the mess the Clintons have brought to our culture finely is uncovered. The number of suspicious deaths around Bill and Hillary defy rational circumstance. Its not that Barr is bought, although that is a possibility, but I will not believe he is on the side of the angels until I see a RICO inditement with the names of the entire Clinton crime family on it.
Just the Clinton organization involvement in the 2016 election should be the subject of investigation going back to 2014. Yet no one in any jurisdiction is interested, money laundering, bribery, fraud, human trafficking, embezzlement, child porn, rape and murder just for starters. The stink rises to the heavens and no one can smell it.

Many years ago, a game company in Baltimore made a pair of conservative-themed board games, Public Assistance and Capital Punishment. The former was a parody of welfare state economics, and the latter looked at the penal system and the baleful effects of liberals. Naturally, liberals objected to this, and they only showed up in small game and hobby shops. (A gaming group in Louisville was sponsored by one, Games Galore, which is how I found them.)
Now, Hasbro has come up with a political parody version of the most successful board game of all, Monopoly: Socialism. In this, players circle the board trying to do what leftists consider good deeds. The results tend not to be favorable. Naturally, now that the game has become noticed (apparently it's been around for a while) the same thing has happened. All sorts of leftists -- I suspect most would deny being socialists -- are complaining loudly (as leftists always do, about whatever they can). If it appears in major stores now, it won't be for much longer.
