The criminal Robert Mugabe died today in a Singaporean hospital. One should probably be thankful that S. Africa got Nelson Mandela and not Mugabe. (Although Mugabe types have followed Mandela) MugabeI recall when Rhodesia died and Zimbabwe was created. I made a bet that Mugabe and his murderers would destroy the place in ten years. I won, but I never did collect that bet.

I wonder if Joshua Nkomo would have been any better. Most revolutionary leaders are monsters, but there's a difference between the Lenins and the Stalins. Mugabe was in the latter group.
Rhodesia/Zimbabwe had an alternative. Bishop Muzorewa was initially elected to replace Ian Smith (who was himself a much better choice than Nkomo or Mugabe). But naturally the revolutionaries refused to accept him because their main goal was personal power. Something similar happened when the Shah of Iran was replaced by Shapour Bakhtiar, who was undoubtedly better than the Ayatollah Khomeini. And again, the moderate alternative was replaced by the revolutionary monster.
In The Wild Geese, the black leader Julius Limbane (based on Moise Tshombe) comments that black Africans need to forgive whites for the past (in the Belgian Congo, that took a lot of forgiving) just as the whites had to forgive blacks for the present. Unfortunately, most black leaders since independence have been worse than most of the colonial powers, and there comes a point when forgiveness is no longer possible. But as more and more whites leave (even though the Afrikaners have as long a history in South Africa as the Bantu -- both arrived there about the same time), this is increasingly irrelevant.

Today is Constitution Day. On this date in 1789, the Constitutional Convention completed its work and signed it.

For those of you who have heard of the Swedish girl, Greta Thunberg" who has become today's climate-change icon, the following article might be of interest. GretaFriends in Europe told me about this girl about a year ago. What I heard from them was bad enough, but this article makes clear what scoundrels her parents are. The girl has Asperger's Syndrome, which is a type of autism. She is being used by the immoral left, sorry I was being redundant, when she should be given medical help. Who seriously listens to a 16 year-old girl on any important subject?

Who seriously listens to a 16 year-old girl on any important subject? This is the kind of exploitation the left is famous for. There is no philosophical difference between her parents and those who sell their children into slavery.

Good point. I think I will be able to use it on someone in the not-too-distant future.

I compare them to human shields, a tactic leftists share with their jihadist allies. The point of using idiots like Greta Thunberg is that anyone who criticizes her views or presentation in any way can be called a bully. It's all emotion, as usual. (How dare the left abuse and misuse children that way!)

Putin seems to have her number, and that of the radical adults who programmed her psittacine rant. They're using -- and abusing -- Thunberg. Note that one difference between Fascism/Nazism and Bolshevism is that the former relied on popular support and the latter didn't care. That support was to some extent bought by consumer goods, which is why Nazi Germany didn't undergo total mobilization until 1943. China and Russia are taking the same approach today. They know what effect climate alarmism would have on that.

Here is a good article which agrees with Trump's decision to pull US troops back in Syria. As I wrote on ST, the Middle East is such a complicated ball of twine that we should stay out of the place. To paraphrase Bismarck, "Syria is not worth the bones of one American PFC." Given America's energy situation, the Middle East is finally of little importance to our economy. The EU, India, Japan, Israel and China have much greater interests there than we do. Let them pick up the slack. Syria

Good news from the Middle East. Maybe Trump knew something the rest of us didn't when he decided to pull American troops back from the Syrian/Turkish border. Bye bye Baghdadi

Naturally the left is behaving in a peculiar fashion. The Washington Compost had a fairly reasonable obit for al-Baghdadi, but the headline initially referred to him purely as a religious leader. Bloomberg did much the same. And of course, James Crapper and Botox Nan were busy looking for negatives.

How today's MSM would headline deaths in the past.
"Adolf Hitler, noted racial expert commits suicide"
"Josef Stalin, former seminary student dies from a stroke."
"Mao Tse Tung famous Chinese social engineer dies in his sleep."
"Richard Speck, student of nurses' habits was executed yesterday."
"Ladies' man, Benito Mussolini died at gas station recently."
"Adolf Eichmann, renowned expert on Jewish culture hanged."
The dishonesty of the left is so enormous that it is hard to express in words.

Good ones, and needless to say some bloggers have made similar ones. I don't think Eichmann actually knew much about Jewish culture, but Julius Streicher did. He had a great collection of Judaica, and I've read that some materials only survived because of his copies. But his support for the Holocaust got him hanged at Nuremberg, so only the name would need to be changed. Of course, Eichmann is much better known that Streicher.
I would also note that Mussolini not only started as a Socialist, he was an expert polemicist as well as a good linguist. (I've heard that he was the only leader at Munich who didn't need an interpreter.) But he certainly was a ladies' man. It's been suggested that his decision to align with Hitler came partly over the Anglo-French reaction (weak though it was) to his conquest of Ethiopia, but also partly because he switched his main squeeze from a nice Jewish girl to the pro-Nazi Clara Petacci.

So boom boom Bagadi blew himself up by detaining a vest. The internal pressures of course kill him immediately, however the unique thing is they tend to force the head off the body very violently so------
POP GOES THE WEASEL !!!

That's a most interesting point and creates a most interesting image. But I trust you can understand that I would probably not like to see a video of it, however much I would enjoy contemplating it.

This today in Steyn online.
US special forces arrived at the door of the wannabe caliph. After dragging three kids and two missuses down into a dead-end tunnel, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi blew himself and his family to Virgin Central. He left his head, more or less intact, which I wouldn't be averse to Trump putting on a spike across the street from The Washington Post.
