An example of how wonderful Zelensky and his people are. I also saw something about how poorly Africans were being treated when trying to get out. If this is true, we really are fools at best. Foreign students being held hostage?

The most prudent estimate is that Ukraine will continue to hold out for a while, but the weight of Russian arms will wear it down. Kiev will fall and it is probable that the government will also. Zeransky and the rest of his government will be killed making them martyrs to the cause.
The question is will Europe continue with its current unity? I don't place any hope in that.

I have seen several different pieces on Russia's possible use of "thermobaric" weapons in the Ukraine. Each piece either hints at or says outright that this is horrible and a possible war crime. Thermobaric weapons This is the type of dishonest rubbish we are hearing across the West. Thank God we are not in the U.K. where it is even worse than here. Then again, the Brits have a long history of spewing out unmitigated propaganda on an industrial scale. Before anyone gets too excited about the above, have a look at the link below. To quote Gomer Pyle, "Surprise, surprise, surprise." The USA has regularly used thermobaric weapons. War is hell There is even a thermobaric version of the much-used "Hellfire" missle. Hellfire

I believe Europe has screwed the pooch. The big winner from this debacle will be the CCP. The USA will also gain something by splitting Europe from Russia. The big looser with be Europe.

The link is to what is, in my opinion, one of the few reasonably honest commentaries on the actual situation in the Ukraine. Putin is not losing

Listen, I know you guys aren't on the same page as me regarding Russia and Putin. But I was somewhat outraged to read this recent blather by Rod Dreher. My response (still waiting for their slow system to approve it) to his article was: Rod, get a grip. We ought to denounce everything Russian and challenge the Russian people to protest against Putin's organized murder of Ukrainians. In the case of Obama's ambassador to Russia, even a stopped clock is right twice a day. It's not hysteria to get riled up. It's the kind of social push-back that, short of picking up a rifle and joining the Ukrainians, that the average person can do. If you can't come out with a healthy "Eff Mother Russia" at this point, then it's time to retire the moral soap box that you're standing on.

The short term outrage, which we are now experiencing in the West, is going to create long-term consequences which we will not like. I am very confident that the idiots leading us are creating a new economic block which will extend from the second longitudinal line on the left all the way to the right. This economic block will be called "The Greater Asian Co-Operation Sphere" and instead of Japan at its head, it will have China leading it. This will very quickly eclipse the American Empire, given the leadership we have had over the last thirty years. Eurasia and Oceania?

If you can't come out with a healthy "Eff Mother Russia" at this point, then it's time to retire the moral soap box that you're standing on. "Mother Russia is a cold mother." F troop 1965. I don't have any problem with the idea of avoiding Russian products. The obvious product to censor is oil and our senile president, for reasons passing understanding, is afraid to pull the trigger. This is the moment of truth and he is proving to be a coward. Putin will continue to take advantage until he gets what he wants or there is a war between US and Russia. Our singular hope is the Russian don't act in a crazy manner when they are demonstrably nuts.

Honestly, I couldn't tell you what Brandon is. If you told me he was one of Satan's minions, that would make some sense.
We ought to be building every pipeline and opening every spigot. I think outrage against Russia's organized murder in Ukraine is healthy and should be universal. Such outrage may soften as energy bills climb. But one of the best quotes I heard was that apparently the environmental wackos in Germany were willing to live with nuclear energy if it meant cutting off buying oil and gas from Russia.
A very small corner of Hell just froze over. But it's something.
Germany is in that situation of "I'm shocked, shocked to hear that Putin is a monster." They depend on Russia for much of their energy. One could say that Putin's Hitleresque moves are a wake-up call for a lot of people.
In simple terms of power and will, Putin will get what he wants in the short term. But it's hard to imagine that the Russian military hasn't walked into another Afghanistan. The appropriate response by all nations who wish to put these Hitlerian characters behind us is to support any and all opposition to Putin. And I think this will happen.
I read yesterday that some billionaire offered a one million dollar bounty on Putin's head. That's the kind of "social justice" action I believe in, although probably only a high military leader or one of the oligarchs has a shot at taking him out. But I can't see the Russian people feeling proud of what is going on. There ultimately is going to be very little in it for them. It's like, "Thanks, Putin, for making the Russian people the pariahs of the world."
A friend told me yesterday that Turkey had given Ukraine a whole bunch of drones and that these have been effective. If so, one can foresee how easy it would be (if the West and others have the will) to make life for the Russians hell in Ukraine.
The ace in the hole (war can make strange bedfellows) is that the media hates Putin so I don't see them turning a blind eye to the atrocities committed by Putin's army. But as we know, marching orders can come down on high and it could suddenly be a case of "Well, Ukraine wasn't a very nice place to begin with, so big deal." That seems to be the attitude around here.
It was interesting to see that Apple has banned selling products in Russia. That's a good move. But as an article I read noted, what they hell will they do if China invades Taiwan? Apple sells but a handful of products in Russia but is heavily dependent upon China for both sales and manufacturing. Virtue signaling will cost Apple a hell of a lot more regarding China. The smart move (which apparently they have taken steps to do) is to diversify their manufacturing base. But that doesn't change the fact that at some point they will face either boycotting China or selling out Taiwan. I think they would sell out Taiwan in a heartbeat.

Three incredibly stupid ideas. Sanction India If the USA wants to destroy the efforts of many years to draw India closer to us, then this is the way to do it. First, India has old and close ties to Russia. Second, India is the world's largest democracy, the world's sixth largest economy and has a 5,000 year history. It see's itself as a great power and it is hard to argue with that. Recognize Taiwan Officially recognizing Taiwan as an independent country would elicit an immediate attack from China. This is an immovable red line. Even my friends in Taiwan don't want the USA to officially recognize Taiwan as a free-standing country. They are quite happy to live with the present fiction by which China claims Taiwan is a renegade province that will eventually come back to the mother country. senator calls for Putin's assassination It's one thing for some Russian oligarch to offer $1 million for the assassination of Putin, it is altogether another thing for a sitting U.S. senator to call for it. I have long said Graham is a scumbag. This proves he is a stupid warmonger wholly owned by the military-industrial-security-state-foreign-policy-globalist-financial state. Let's defend Ukraine's border, but leave our borders unprotected.

Why did they close three nuclear-power plants in December? Idiots are closing the barn door after the horse has bolted.

We have long stated here that the Utopian mindset of the Progressive environmentalists has no room for thinking about consequences. Well, Putin and his tanks are consequences. And, for now, he has the Germans' attention. But I really don't expect these same types to put 2 and 2 together in any permanent way. Environmentalism is their religion. Still, if it changes attitudes about nuclear power (arguably "greener" than any other type outside of unicorn farts), that would be something. Save a Ukrainian. Build a nuclear plant. That would certainly fit on a bumper sticker.

Unfortunately, there is a significant number of Neo-Nazis in the Ukraine. They have their own " Azov Battalion" which has been fighting in the Donbas region for years. It appears that the Battalion is now holed up in the surrounded Mariupol. Many expect them to fight to the death. Who knows what will happen. Stepan Bandera is our hero As some might recall from an earlier post, the Ukrainian Nazis/Ultra Right Wing were too much for even the Waffen SS.

If you say so, Mr. Flu. I think of him as David French 1.0. But whatever. This is the guy who had the fetish for Obama's pant crease. He's not an emotionally or intellectually reliable commentator.

I noticed him spinning off into outer space in 2008. I wondered what had happened to him. Perhaps he was always a nutter or perhaps, getting gigs at the New York Times and PBS corrupted him. But today he is less than a hologram of a man.

I don't know what it's like to write or speak political commentary for a living. Perhaps I would shade my views to whatever paid best or that allowed me to fit in best.
But I do think that perhaps prostitution is not the oldest profession. Or perhaps we could say that political commentary often makes prostitutes of people. I don't believe, for example, that Jonah Goldberg is stupid. I just think he is dishonest.
David Brooks is a swamp person. I don't think he can be taken seriously. And the swamp is not just a left wing phenomenon. Like I said, I don’t know if I could survive the swamp intact. But we do know that most can't.
It shouldn't shock us that there are a thousand David Brooks in the press. It should shock us to find one honest man. And, you know, when I disagree with Dennis Prager I never suspect that he's being intellectually dishonest. I don't think he's a poseur. I don't think he (as Rush did regularly) is tilting his message to match his audience.
Those kinds of people are few and far between. I'm not talking about necessarily being right all the time. No one can expect to be faultless. But you can expect (or should expect) intellectual honesty from your newscaster or commentator. And I can count on about one hand people I consider intellectually honest.
