VDH asks a series Leah-type questions (inside joke to Mr. Flu). The short answer is: The largest and most inflectional bloc of voters: idiot left-of-center women. Sure, it's more complicated than that. But it's almost assured that none of the things that VDH lists would be happening if women couldn't vote. The Coup We Never Knew

Funny you should mention the Byzantine Empire. I recently finished that volume of The Cambridge Medieval History. In fact, the Byzantines were the original iconoclasts around the eighth century into the ninth century. This brought about the first major break between the Latin and Greek Churches. It took another 30-50 years after the fall the Isaurian Dynasty for the Greek Church to revert to its previous position. I find Orthodox Church theology is close to many Protestant denominations, which follow the Bible more closely than the Roman Catholic Church. But that is another discussion. Of course, the fall of the Eastern Roman Empire cannot be summed up in a page or two, but I think VDH sells them short. Although I have read history extensively, I had forgotten, or did not know, how deeply involved the Eastern Roman Empire was with the West until I started on the Cambridge History. Even though Rome fell to Aleric in AD410 and the generally recognized date of the demise of the Western Empire is AD476, for centuries thereafter those who ruled the various parts of what had been the Western Empire turned to the Emperor in the East for legitimacy. From the time of Christianity becoming the official religion of the Roman Empire (circa AD376) all Christian bishops from Rome to Jerusalem came under the protection of the Emperor in Constantinople. The Pope was considered a first among equals, but he did not have the power to dictate to the rest of the bishops, including the Patriarch of Constantinople. Although Constantinople was not one of the ancient bishoprics of the Church, due to its location it gained power that it would, otherwise, not have had. One might say that this is the original seed of the schism. (My belief) As the centuries wore on, the Pope had increasing troubles from various quarters, which encroached upon Church lands. The problem came to a head with the Lombards who pushed the Pope(s) continually. The Emperor's ability or willingness to protect the Pope was basically absent. In its absence, the Pope had to turn elsewhere for protection. He turned to the Franks, which were the first powerful Germanic tribe to accept Trinitarian Christianity as opposed to the Arian version, which the Lombards practiced. It was with Charlemagne's father, Pepin, who made the first agreements between the Pope and the Franks. And it was with Charlemagne that they came to their height of fruition. The Carolingians, Pepin and Charlemagne, made short work of the Lombards and then became King of the Lombards as well as King of the France (Francia). Basically, a deal was made between the Pope and the Carolingians which gave the Carolingians legitimacy. They were actually "Mayors of the Palace" for the Merovingian dynasty, but were in fact the real power in Francia. With the Pope's official blessing, they deposed the last Merovingian and became Kings of France. Charlemagne and Pope Leo III took it further. Leo crowned Charlemagne in Rome in AD800. This was, effectively, the beginning of the Holy Roman Empire, although the actual creation took place some hundred years later. Charlemagne became not only the King of Francia, but Emperor of the (theoretically continued) Roman Empire in the West. In effect, the Frankish Kings became protectors of the Catholic Religion in Europe. This, in my opinion, is where the real division of the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox (which was also called Catholic) Churches took deep root.

You wouldn't believe how complex. The compilation is over 3,000 pages. And the more I read, the more I realize I don't know. Life, and therefore history, is complicated.

And the more I read, the more I realize I don't know. How very true. When I was 18 I thought I had a handle on the world. Now at 75 I realize how much I don't know, but also how much I don't know, that I don't know. One of the things James Angleton taught officers was to always understand that the enemy knows what they are doing and we seldom know more than about 10%, most of that in bits and pieces. It is how we got Iraq with weapons of mass destruction and missed the 19 Saudis on 911. Knowing and thinking you know are two very different things.

latest from VDH. amgreatness.com/2023/03/26/who-owns-the-university/cannot hide the fact that in many ways campuses are emulating the spirit and practice of the Old Confederacy and postbellum Jim Crow South, according to the infamous “1/16” or the “one-drop” rule, to adjudicate hiring and admission, and the apartheid practice of directing particular races to “separate but equal” housing.

I can't think of a better example proving that liberalism is the gateway drug to Leftism. These people are shocked, shocked that their past support for victimhood and the elimination of all basic rules of normal conduct would lead to TTDL (things they don't like). And they haven't a clue what to do about it because in almost all cases their own ideology is based on the same tenets, if arguable less extreme. Not many people are skilled at sawing off the branch they are on and making that work.

Absolutely. And many of these assholes are fleeing the sewers which they created and coming here. Go back you pricks! Suffer the consequences of what you have sown. Go back you pricks! Suffer the consequences of what you have sown. One of the unknowns about this migration is how many of them are leaving to escape the chaos, how many of that number are bringing their politics with them. It appears that where standard American conservatism is predominate that new residents from other states will adapt to the culture. One of the unknown unknowns about this internal migration is how many potential migrants from conservative states do not migrate to CA, IL, NY. Another unknown is how many American conservatives, and many Libertarians will only consider living in areas that solidly reflect their values. How many will say there is not enough money to persuade me to move to any of these states.

Bremerton, Washington, used to be a bit of an oasis in all of libtard Western Washington (with Eastern Washington – east of the Cascade mountains – being generally conservative). We're a military town, perhaps unlike anything that exists in America except for Norfolk. We are a small town with a yuge (generally friendly) gorilla in our midst. One of my father's accomplishments as mayor was to get the Navy to pay a little B&O tax. The city was in the situation of gaining much employment from the Navy but still having significant expenses for infrastructure that the Navy was unburdened in regards to paying for.
Things are changing, with the main infection points being: the media, the proximity of Seattle, the local college, and idiot women. I don't say that flippantly. Just as Seattle has outright Communists on their city council, we've had some doozy idiot women in our government. Just as some men (Hitler comes to mind) would have done the world a service had he stuck to painting, so there are many communities around the nation that would be better off if the various offenders would have just stayed home baking cookies.
Increasingly we are living in the video game, "Revenge of the Zombies," where no neighborhood is safe and the zombies just keep coming and coming. Yes, you can move, and many have. But they will likely find you there too.
I was thinking today, I have a New Grand Theory to categorize all this. It doesn't purport to explain it, but it does in part. Mr. Kung had noted how in times past, the Christian worldview really was the way people saw and lived the world, much as Islam (that evil pestilence upon mankind) does today, but in a bad way.
No one here is a devout Christian or orthodox Jew, so far as I know. And yet we live and think as if we were living in a time when societies were formed by grand ideas (as opposed to stupid ideas). This is why VDH is so appealing. We can see that he is one of us, even though we know nothing about his family, his life, and various other things. But we know he's not a zombie.
And today we are living amongst zombies. The ideas of traditional and historical American society were founded upon some very high ideals and some time-tested principles, both in terms of how we formed the government and how we generally formed and lived our lives. We weren't all uniformly this or that. The North certainly differed much from the South, and vice versa. And until the Civil War, we could at least say that we were not all insane.
People worked, raised families, went to church or synagogue, helped build the one-room schoolhouse, and generally had a stake in building civilization from scratch. There was very little, either in government or among our neighbors, to support really stupid and bad ideas. This is the message of freedom. If left to our own devices, we won't be perfect, but we will not unite under Really Stupid Ideas because such ideas will not be given enough oxygen to survive long. The underlying realities of life, combined with the freedom to pursue the betterment of one's circumstances, meant it would not be easy to go off on tangents of ideology, for there was no widespread reason to support kooky ideas and idiots.
Contrast that with today. Just think about it. Think about the vast structures that exist today that make it extremely easy for kooky and bad ideas, idiots, ideological thugs, and just the plain mentally ill to grab hold of the sphere of ideas and ram our society off the rails. The zombies are coming for us, no matter where we live, and they will not leave us alone.
And it really is a Zombie Culture (suggesting a new thread title, if not a site-name change). Those who center their lives around pop-driven fads (which also inform and form their morals) become zombies. I realize that with few exceptions, I cannot speak to my fellow citizen in a way that would not bump up against the zombified ideas they have gobbled up from television, movies, the news, school, or just the dumb-fuck 13-year-old hysterical teenage girls whose trauma is amplified for all of us to suffer via "social media."
However you want to term it, or explain it, or analyze it, you will admit that there is a new center for how people live and form their lives, and it is by the social-contagion-amplifying means of, not mass media, but the new instant and ever-changing mass media that is the Vomitorium called "social media," where no bad idea can't be one-upped by an even worse one in a perverse competition for social fame and "likes" fortune.
Remember, right now there is some weirdo somewhere doing weird things and gaining millions of attentive viewers on Facebook or Instagram. However you wish to understand Zombie Culture, it is a completely different universe from ones that we are well aware of, that worked, and that we now see being invaded and taken over by the Zombies. And these Zombies we can't even have a conversation with because their minds have been taken over by the habitual infestation of Really Stupid Things. The best of themselves has been warped and ruined as they accommodate these various Really Stupid Things. It's like putting sand in the gasoline tank of humanity.
So when I see some idiot woman with "she/her/hers" on her business card, I'm looking at a Zombie. This is not someone I can relate to. This is a different species. I know Artler has a plan to keep them out which includes a lot of lead. And perhaps that is exactly why we have all those (really dumb) zombie video games. Perhaps some bazillionaire was thinking ahead and thought this would be a good way to prepare the select few against the coming storm. Certainly Musk has the money to do this behind the scenes.
We can parse it, explain it, observe it, and dislike it. But the Zombie Culture is apparently impervious to our stance on it. It just keeps creating more Zombies. Given the sheer amount of lead that has been stashed away by so many gun owners, I think many of us are on the same page here, even if they haven't thought of it explicitly in these terms.

Like Cicero and Cato VDH s making the case for reform and/or revolution. Where are the republicans/conservatives/libertarians? There may be policy differences between us but we should be united against a common enemy. The enemy of my enemy has to be my friend. amgreatness.com/2023/04/19/the-useful-veneer-of-the-aging-democrat/The party has been changed beyond recognition by Senators Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), the so-called Squad, the Congressional Black Caucus, newly elected senators like the Georgia duo of Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock—and Antifa and Black Lives Matter.

It's interesting the VDH is one of the few to mention this fact. Others might mock it as sort of a cult. But it is indeed a religion. It is impenetrable to reason. I think it was at American Thinker where a guy had an article mentioning the last couple of VDH articles and some other guy's article. It was a hodgepodge but the message was "There is no through...there is only out." And although that will sound defeatist for the "Don't Mess with Texas (or Arkansas)" crowd, I don't see an alternative. Idiot Chicago voters just voted for more crime, and all because the other staunchly Democrat candidate was seen as a closet Republican because he emphasized the need for law enforcement. It's one thing to be "accepting" of men dressing as women (or vice versa). Theoretically, at worst, only the aesthetics of common sense and dignity are betrayed. But when you talk about a culture that is increasingly giving black criminals a pass, you're talking about a serious blow to a civilization. Same with the debt and degradation of the military and education...and the media, movies, news, and everything else the Left has touched. There can be little doubt now that only a massive bloodbath can effect a course change. I'm not advocating that. I'm just saying that the enemy cannot be reasoned with. He can only be defeated by any means necessary. Revolutions are particularly dangerous times so that's not something to lightly advocate, especially when "our side" has been corrupted by Trump. I frankly don't trust "our side" to be able to lead a revolution toward something better than we have now because their powers of discernment (like everyone else's) have been denuded. So we shall live out the rest of our lives while the clowns drive the clown cart. And we will try to insulate ourselves from this as much as possible and wait for the inevitable breakdown of civil order.

There is no through...there is only out.
A message that I have been on for about two years. I don't see a safe passage through the shoals of leftism currently engulfing the country. Leftists are constantly dividing us into tribes with competing agendas and amazingly we just go along with it. The racial divide is just the most obvious. The divide is apparent in every institution from pre-school to Ph.D. In business, church/synagogue, and local government. The left is attempting, with success, to turn 350 million people into a population of misfits.
Misfits live in an atmosphere of passion. The autonomous individual has no place in the misfit world. They demand that we take their position. If we refuse to concur social separation, vile name calling, physical attacks and loss of employment are only a few of the punishments.
A little over 100 years ago the the long peace of the 19th century came to a close with the First World War and its horrible coda WW II. While the world and America was certainly not Pax Americana the greatest threat of WW III was avoided. The Cold War was never cold, but it was controlled. The relative peace of the 20th century has last about 80 years. The question we ask ourselves now is not IF, but when. Expect every day to wake up and find the Chinese attacking Taiwan, The Russians attacking NATO, N Korea invading the south and Iranian missiles falling on Tel Aviv. The coming war could decrease the world population by billions and there may be no one around to tally the dead.

VDH gives a nice history lesson. He also recites many of the present insane policies and actions which have brought the country close to collapse. He even says there is a counterrevolution building. Yet, even if this is true, (which I don't necessarily believe to be the case) I see the weapons of control wielded by our modern state are more powerful than those at the disposal of the Jacobins in 1793.
I do not believe our Wokefarians will simply concede defeat and fade away. They have already shown they will lie, cheat, steal, use physical force, the security state and judiciary to maintain power. To physically wrest control from our modern Jacobins will likely be much bloodier than the violence visited upon Robespierre and Co.

I have been saying that to end this "woke radicalization of America" will require a lot of blood for a couple of years now. I think we have been non the cutting edge of perceiving what the left is doing. Intellectuals like VDH have been slow to come to terms with the revolution brewing. Perhaps VDH and others are beginning to see the threat in real (personal) terms.
Decades of successful and legitimate efforts to ensure equality of opportunity, a safety net for the poor, and increased civil liberties have transmogrified into an “equity” agenda, or state-mandated equality of result—or else!
We have not descended to the guillotine yet, but we are getting there with online cancel culture, doxxing, deplatforming, boycotts, mandatory diversity statements, indoctrination training, ostracism for an incorrect word, and violence redefined as activism.
In our revolutionary times, mediocre biological male athletes “transition” into female sports and suddenly become rich and famous. Women who transition to males, for some reason, find no such profits from male competitions.
Like Revolutionary France, our woke revolution was contrary to human nature and therefore had to be imposed by force or coercion.
A counterrevolution is building, not just because people are angry at what has become of their country, but because they now are learning that if they do nothing, they will have no country—and soon.
