This is not a trick question. If you were running an education establishment (a high school, in particular), what would your three bullet-point guiding principles be? For example, if the subject was "marriage" you might say "Love, honor, and obey." If you were to say what are the three guiding principle of Christianity you might answer "Faith, hope, and love." If we were talking about an auto repair shop, you might answer, "Fix, fast, and friendly." Etc.
So what three bullet points would you put on the wall for all the world to see, especially your students, regarding a high school? After you give your answer I will give you (my answer) and the answer that I found in the real world. And let's scratch "reading, writing, and arithmetic" out just so you have to think about it a little.

I polled by brother on this and he offered:
* Quality Education * Build Future Leaders * Discipline
He had a 4th in case one of the others was not acceptable: * Tube Tops on all the Cheerleaders

Hard work, fun and knowing the appropriate time for each.
If one wanted to be brutally honest...
No one cares about your feelings
You will sometimes fail, learn to accept it and move forward
You are responsible for your actions
or
Nothing of real worth is easy
Question everything, but have a foundation of knowledge from which you can do so intelligently
Don't waste time. It is the only thing that you will never have any chance to recover

I'm with him on all but the "Build Future Leaders" mantra. This is used so often and in such circumstances that it means almost nothing. I would prefer "Build Future Good Citizens" or something like that.
"Build Future Leaders" is like the old saw one hears at almost every university graduation ceremony, to wit "Find something you love and do it. Then you will be successful." This sounds good but is in fact a load of crap for most people. What about the 5'9" guy who loves basketball? How much success do you think he will have? How about the girl who would love to be a model but has short legs and a long waist?
I think better advice would be something like, "If you can find something that you love and you are really good at it then have at it. But to be honest, most of you are going to enter a world in which your "loves" are not of much monetary value to the rest of us. My recommendation is to find a job which is a challenge and is interesting to you. Do your best to become very good at this job and give it a great deal of focus. This will often lead to job satisfaction and success. Keep your loves in your heart and take time to pursue them outside of office hours."

This makes me think of the thing from a different perspective. The teachers are in need of such guidance as much as the students.

A positive result in San Francisco, although I'm disappointed that Ryan Mills couldn't state the obvious which was that these three school board members were racists. Baby steps, I guess. One commenter notes:

A positive result in San Francisco Not as positive as you might think. True, three board member were removed, but the replacements will be appointed by one of the most communist mayors in the world, so the gain, if any, is non existent.

Glad you mentioned this. One can't help but suspect that the three board members, who were booted, were so toxic that they were hurting the Demoncrat brand in San Francisco in a major way. Thus even the mayor supported the recall knowing that he would be able to appoint lackeys who were more amenable to being less honest and vocal about the leftist agenda.

It's never going to be as good as I hope for. What should happen is a bunch of angry parents, in each school district all over the state of California, lay siege to the administration offices. It ought to look like one of those old black-and-white movie pitchfork crowds who are coming for Dr. Frankenstein because of the monster he has let loose on them.
Granted, the school board members they are keeping are almost certainly unfit for their jobs as well. But they are, in the eyes of the idiots who have been voting these people in, just a little less loony. But to ask me to penetrate the minds of these San Francisco liberals to figure out the shades of loony, as they see it, is asking way too much.
Yes, the airplane is flying on just two of its four engines and they need to lighten the aircraft or it will plunge into the ocean. So the voters chuck out a toilet seat cover and a couple napkins. I get that it's a very small positive step. But it is a step.

Yes, the airplane is flying on just two of its four engines That might be but the plane doesn't have a right wing.

This is a subject we covered at ST. I am glad to see a psychologist call out the ADHD fraud for what it is. We have long had idiot teachers "prescribing" medicine for little boys simply because they are boys. I recall pushing back very hard on this type of nonsense during one meeting my wife and I had at an elementary school. I finally had to say something very similar to this. "Read my lips. As long as I am around, nobody will be giving my son medicine for ADHD or anything similar. Period. Do you not realize there are no, zero, long-term studies on the effect of such medicines on children? Nobody has any idea of how these will effect the organs of children, which are not yet fully developed. Quiet different from those of adults. I do not wish to hear anything further on this point. It is not going to happen. Finished." There is no such thingSPIEGEL: … you could also say skyrocketed. In the 1960s, mental disorders were virtually unknown among children. Today, official sources claim that one child in eight in the United States is mentally ill.
Kagan: That's true, but it is primarily due to fuzzy diagnostic practices. Let's go back 50 years. We have a 7-year-old child who is bored in school and disrupts classes. Back then, he was called lazy. Today, he is said to suffer from ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). That's why the numbers have soared. SPIEGEL: Experts speak of 5.4 million American children who display the symptoms typical of ADHD. Are you saying that this mental disorder is just an invention?Kagan: That's correct; it is an invention. Every child who's not doing well in school is sent to see a pediatrician, and the pediatrician says: "It's ADHD; here's Ritalin." In fact, 90 percent of these 5.4 million kids don't have an abnormal dopamine metabolism. The problem is, if a drug is available to doctors, they'll make the corresponding diagnosis.See how the medical and education systems get corrupted?
