My father was one for both photographs and home movies, which no doubt reflects our tendency to visit a lot of places.
My dad shot stills only. But I did find a couple reels of 16mm in his archives recently. I’ve only just begun to investigate what it would take to convert these to digital. MyMovieTransfer.com was the first thing that came up on a search. 1080p transfer (no clean-up) is $0.35 per foot. It would look to be a couple of 400 foot reals and a couple of 100 foot reels that I have. A couple of these may be generic promotional videos not shot by (or for) my father. So there could be some weeding out.
But if I do the math that would be 1000 feet x $0.35 = $35.00. That (I think) is for the scanning only. Then it’s $19.95 per disc on DVD. Let’s say shipping is $20.00. Total project cost is in the range of $135.00 if I am reading their price list correctly.
Since I’m fairly sure a couple of these reels are of no interest, it would be less than that. But it’s nice to know I can have that done if needed. At least one of the reels appears to be film shot of a slot car track race at G&G Raceways. My father built and opened a slot track race course back in the 60’s. As you might imagine, we kids had a lot of fun but I’m not sure that it was a financial success. It lasted at least a couple years and then he closed it down.
I digitized the logo a few years back:
RacewaysCam
If I ever get that digitized, I’ll post it here. Here's the vector pdf version of the logo.
